Managed Backup timing out on very large site

Unable to complete a Managed Backup in Snapshot on a site weighing in at 40Gb. We’ve tried all the usual steps of increasing server resources and adding defines to wp-config.php. But every attempt at a Managed Backup fails with a 504 timeout.
