Let\u2019s get started.<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"automatically\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>Automatically Generating a PDF From a Form<\/h2>\n<p>This method creates a PDF template based on a form that was created in Forminator. It\u2019s a way to get started with an established form instantly, so you don\u2019t have to start from scratch.<\/p>\n<p>Clicking on <strong>Templates<\/strong> from the E2Pdf admin and <strong>Add New<\/strong> will get you started. Once clicking Add New, a pop-up will appear where you will create the PDF.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195671\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195671\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/add-new-pdf.png\" alt=\"Where you add a new E2Pdf.\" width=\"600\" height=\"593\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The PDF is ready to be made!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>From here, you\u2019ll want to give this PDF a <strong>Title<\/strong>, select whether it\u2019s active or not in the <strong>Status<\/strong>, and change the <strong>Width &amp; Height<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You can also choose a premade custom selection from the <strong>Size Preset<\/strong> dropdown regarding the size. This is where the integration comes into play.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll notice that E2Pdf has picked up that <strong>Forminator<\/strong> is installed on our WordPress site and automatically included it as an option. That\u2019s a click away by clicking the gear icon for <strong>Options<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>You can also drag and drop the fields around to rearrange any way that you\u2019d like. Additionally, if you right-click (or use two fingers to tap if you\u2019re on a Mac) on a field, it will open up the options for:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Map Field<\/li>\n<li>Hide<\/li>\n<li>Copy<\/li>\n<li>Cut<\/li>\n<li>Delete<\/li>\n<li>Properties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195678\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195678\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/field-options.png\" alt=\"The various field options.\" width=\"600\" height=\"311\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">All of these options are available in each field.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <strong>PDF Builder<\/strong> located on the righthand side allows you to drag and drop <strong>Fields<\/strong> and <strong>Objects<\/strong> into your PDF form.<\/p>\n<video loop muted autoplay playsinline class='dev-html5-video'><source src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/pdf-builder.webm\" type=\"video\/webm\"><source src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/pdf-builder.mp4\" type=\"video\/mp4\"><\/video>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><small>Drag and drop any additional details that you\u2019d like.<\/small><\/p>\n<p>Again, just hit <strong>Update<\/strong> if any changes are made, and you\u2019ll be all set!<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll notice then that your new PDF for the form is in the <strong>Templates<\/strong> section of E2Pdf\u2019s admin. From here, you can open it up, see if it\u2019s active or not, and get the <strong>Shortcode<\/strong> for it (which I\u2019ll be discussing soon).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195679\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195679\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/templates.png\" alt=\"Templates in admin.\" width=\"600\" height=\"241\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The new template in the admin area.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Now that we\u2019ve looked at how to generate a PDF from a form automatically let\u2019s move on to\u2026<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"using\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>Using a Premade PDF<\/h2>\n<p>Another way of creating a PDF from a form is by using a premade template and simply mapping data to the fields in it.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll want to add a new PDF template by going to <strong>Templates &gt; Add New<\/strong>. Then, title it, and include the settings you\u2019ll want (e.g. width, font, etc.).<\/p>\n<p>Make sure Forminator is selected as the <strong>Extension<\/strong> and choose the form used to add in all of the data.<\/p>\n<p>Next, we\u2019ll click <strong>Upload PDF,<\/strong> and we\u2019ll select a PDF we want to upload as a template.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195680\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195680\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/upload-pdf.png\" alt=\"Upload PDF button.\" width=\"600\" height=\"597\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Once you click upload, you can choose a file from anywhere.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Once uploaded, it shows up in the admin. In this example, I created one called \u201cAnother Example.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195681\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195681\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/example-pdf.png\" alt=\"PDF set up in Word.\" width=\"600\" height=\"579\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">You can see, I set this up like a contract.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Currently, none of the form fields are mapped on the template. Changing that is a breeze. All you have to do is add them manually from the <strong>PDF Builder<\/strong> &#8212; just like I showed in the previous example.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195682\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195682\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/PDF-form-builder-2.png\" alt=\"Fields you can place in the PDF.\" width=\"600\" height=\"549\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Place the fields wherever you\u2019d like!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As you can see, I added several input fields and a signature field.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195683\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195683\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/example-form-made-from-pdf.png\" alt=\"Example of the new PDF.\" width=\"600\" height=\"337\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">My new PDF form has all of the fields now included.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Now, to choose how the data is stored in the form on Forminator, all you do is right-click (or use two fingers on a Mac) on the field and select <strong>Map Field<\/strong>. You\u2019ll then click on the field in Forminator\u2019s form for whatever selection you want.<\/p>\n<video loop muted autoplay playsinline class='dev-html5-video'><source src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/map-field.webm\" type=\"video\/webm\"><source src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/map-field.mp4\" type=\"video\/mp4\"><\/video>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><small>All the data is quick and accessible to input.<\/small><\/p>\n<p>Do this for every field that you want to include on the form and PDF.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re happy with everything after hitting preview, just click <strong>Update<\/strong> and save your changes. It\u2019s that easy!<\/p>\n<p>The final method of creating a form that translates into a PDF is the\u2026<\/p>\n<h2><a name=\"creating\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>Creating a PDF from the PDF Builder to Design a Template<\/h2>\n<p>This method creates a template by just using the PDF Builder. Like the other ways of creating PDFs, it\u2019s fast and straightforward to set up.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll start by going to <strong>Templates<\/strong> and <strong>Add New<\/strong> for a new template. As I previously demonstrated, name it and choose the settings that suit your needs.<\/p>\n<p>Make sure Forminator is selected in <strong>Extensions<\/strong>, and choose a form that you\u2019d like to use from the dropdown menu.<\/p>\n<p>This time around, we will click the<strong> Empty PDF<\/strong> button because we will completely design this template.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195684\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195684\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/empty-pdf.png\" alt=\"Empty PDF button.\" width=\"600\" height=\"614\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">We\u2019re going to start from scratch with this one.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Once clicking Empty PDF, it takes you to &#8212; you guessed it &#8212; an empty PDF page.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PRO TIP:<\/strong> <em>When doing this, write everything down that you want to include on your PDF. That way, you don\u2019t miss anything, and you can ensure that your PDF design is precisely how you want it before you start putting it together.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Once you know what you\u2019d like to include, you can map all of the blank PDF fields by dragging items from the <strong>PDF Builder<\/strong>. Then, right-click (or use two fingers on a MacBook) to <strong>Map Field<\/strong> to the form inputs on the Forminator form.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195685\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195685\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/mapped-form.png\" alt=\"Mapped PDF.\" width=\"600\" height=\"408\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">You can even add a company logo as an image.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As always, you can preview it. Once it looks good, click <strong>Save,<\/strong> and you\u2019re all set!<\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"how-users\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>How Users View, Receive and Download PDFs<\/h2>\n<p>The way users view, receive, and download PDFs all begins with <strong>shortcodes<\/strong>. Then, depending on where you add them, users can download, view, or save the PDF.<\/p>\n<p>Each time you create a new template, it creates a shortcode accessible in the admin under <strong>Templates<\/strong> and each template. When clicking on Shortcodes, a dropdown appears that has several to choose from.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195686\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195686\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/shortcodes.png\" alt=\"Shortcodes for the PDFs.\" width=\"600\" height=\"326\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">You can see the variety of shortcodes available in the dropdown.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Copy and paste a shortcode of your preference. Then, we\u2019ll head into the form settings in Forminator.<\/p>\n<p>From here, you\u2019ll click on the form that you want and select<strong> Edit <\/strong>and then <strong>Behavior<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re going to add this shortcode to the inline message that appears after the form submission. I\u2019ll also add a little note beforehand. This particular shortcode that I copied is to save the PDF.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195687\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195687\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/submission-message.png\" alt=\"Submission Behavior section.\" width=\"600\" height=\"347\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Your user is now all set to save the PDF.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Additionally, after a user submits a form, they can receive an email. I\u2019ll set up an <strong>Attachment<\/strong> option for the PDF that the user will receive.<\/p>\n<p>Then, just copy the Attachment shortcode\u2026<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_195688\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-195688\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/attachment-shortcode.png\" alt=\"The attachment shortcode.\" width=\"600\" height=\"347\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">It\u2019s the first shortcode on the top.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Go into Forminator, <strong>Email Notifications<\/strong>, and <strong>Add Notification<\/strong> (or edit, if you already have one set up).
