The maps show your app\u2019s connections, plus dependencies. Transactions are defined as one logical unit of work in a software application.<\/p>\n<p>The two foremost transactions that are included are <strong>Web<\/strong> and <strong>Non-Web<\/strong>. It\u2019s essential to investigate thoroughly before simply removing a plugin or theme, taking the most time.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"databases\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>Databases<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a lot to observe from the <strong>Databases<\/strong> tab. This area will enable you to identify the database tables and queries that take up the most time. It displays an application\u2019s database and cache data.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_200865\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-200865\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/databases.png\" alt=\"A look at databases.\" width=\"600\" height=\"596\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">You can see what all is taking up the most time on one page.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>If any slow queries have been reported, they will be displayed when you select a transaction.<\/p>\n<p>This area has three separate parts:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All-databases overview<\/li>\n<li>Top database operations<\/li>\n<li>Table with all database operations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Filter operations by database vendor, review top database operations, and delete traces.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a id=\"external\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>External Services<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With the<strong> External Services, <\/strong>you can easily view which external services are consuming an abundance of time. Let\u2019s take a look at an example.<\/p>\n<p>For this instance, let\u2019s say you\u2019re checking out how your client\u2019s plugins are performing.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_200868\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-200868\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/most-time-consuming.png\" alt=\"The most time consuming plugins and themes.\" width=\"600\" height=\"540\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">You can see that WooCommerce is the most time-consuming.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As you can see, WooCommerce is taking up the most time in this WordPress ecosystem, followed by RankMath. Then, it\u2019s followed by a lot of addons for WooCommerce.<\/p>\n<p>Consider the options of removing any of these plugins. What plugins are essential? Any that aren\u2019t? Is there anything you can do to help your client\u2019s WordPress site\u2019s performance by removing a plugin? Hmm&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>In this case, Query Monitor is running. And it makes sense to disable it.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a big difference between running system-layer benchmarks (e.g. New Relic) and running an application layer, like Query Monitor.<\/p>\n<p>Query Monitor monitors and hooks all calls while WordPress is trying to execute them, so it can add more load time overall since you have to wait for its logging mechanisms to go to work.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, it doesn\u2019t need to be constantly used; therefore, it\u2019s best to disable it.<\/p>\n<p>New Relic features some more examples of identifying and handling performance issues <a href=\"https:\/\/newrelic.com\/blog\/how-to-relic\/new-relic-apm-troubleshoot-performance\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">on their blog<\/a>. The quickest way to access your hosted sites is to click the <strong>Hosting<\/strong> tab in the dashboard. Leave this option open, and we\u2019ll head back into New Relic in a new tab.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"license\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>Getting the License Key<\/h3>\n<p>When logged into your New Relic account, obtaining a license key to add into The Hub and sync your account is just a couple of steps.<\/p>\n<p>Simply go to your icon button in New Relic, that\u2019s located in the upper right corner. Let\u2019s move on to&#8230;<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"activating\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>Activating New Relic in The Hub<\/h3>\n<p>The screen that we previously were on (<strong>Hosting&gt; Tools&gt; New Relic Monitoring<\/strong>) should be there waiting for you (unless, of course, you closed out that tab).<\/p>\n<p>Simply paste the code where it says<strong> License Key<\/strong> and, if you haven\u2019t already, give it a name. Once pasted, you\u2019ll switch the <strong>Enable\/Disable ON<\/strong> (it\u2019ll turn blue) and click <strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_200875\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-200875\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/new-relic-key-1.png\" alt=\"Where you enter the new relic key in The Hub.\" width=\"600\" height=\"597\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Name it anything that you\u2019d like.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And now, you\u2019re ready to\u2026<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"see-data\" target=\"_blank\"><\/a>See Your Data in New Relic<\/h3>\n<p>It doesn\u2019t take long for data to start being collected in New Relic and appear on a lot of what we covered already (e.g. Transactions).<\/p>\n<p>The App Name that you gave your website should appear in New Relic almost instantly! Go to the <strong>Explorer<\/strong> tab and click on<strong> APM<\/strong>.
