Whether it&#8217;s an established domain with us or you have a third-party domain service, it&#8217;s a breeze.<\/p>\n<p>There are just a few differences&#8230;<\/p>\n<h3>New User<\/h3>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a new user with no registered or connected domains, you&#8217;ll get started in The Hub by clicking the <strong>Domains<\/strong> tab and <strong>Transfer a Domain<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214420\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-ratio-full wp-image-214420\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Screenshot-2023-01-31-at-7.05.46-AM-1050x837.png\" alt=\"New user view for domains.\" width=\"1050\" height=\"837\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">No domains in our system? From that, click on the <\/span><b>Transfer Domain to Us<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> button.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214426\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-214426 size-ratio-full\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Screenshot-2023-01-31-at-7.41.35-AM-1050x318.png\" alt=\"Use us for domain\" width=\"1050\" height=\"318\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">You have other options under the ellipsis as well, such as managing and rechecking DNS.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Additionally, you can click on any connected domain&#8217;s row, which will open up Nameserver details for that specific domain. Clicking the <strong>Transfer Domain to Us<\/strong> button is another way to get the process going.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214425\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-214425 size-ratio-full\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Screenshot-2023-01-31-at-7.39.06-AM-1050x560.png\" alt=\"transfer domain to us.\" width=\"1050\" height=\"560\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">As you can see, the price per year is also mentioned here.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Whatever option you choose will lead to an area where you can start the 3-step process.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"domain\">Step 1: Domain Eligibility Check<\/h2>\n<p>In this first step, we check whether the domain is transferable.<\/p>\n<p>To start, you&#8217;ll specifically enter the domain you want to transfer. Enter it completely with its TLD (e.g. .com).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214412\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-214412 size-ratio-full\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/transfer-a-domain-1050x475.png\" alt=\"Transfer existing domain\" width=\"1050\" height=\"475\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Once entered, hit &#8216;Transfer&#8217; to continue.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>If a domain is ineligible, you&#8217;ll get an error message. The messages will vary, depending on the issue.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214422\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-ratio-full wp-image-214422\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Screenshot-2023-01-31-at-7.28.40-AM-1050x710.png\" alt=\"error message.\" width=\"1050\" height=\"710\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">In this example, it&#8217;s an invalid TLD.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Almost any domain TLD is okay to transfer. We have over 260 TLDs that are available for use and transfers. For any questions or issues about this, please contact support or see our documentation for <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/docs\/hub-2-0\/domains\/#domain-transfer-rules\" target=\"_blank\">rules and reasons a domain doesn&#8217;t transfer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That being said, if all is good and the domain is eligible, once you hit <strong>Transfer<\/strong>, it will take you to the nameserver step.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"nameserver\">Step 2: Nameserver Settings<\/h2>\n<p>This step is where you can choose to use our nameservers and DNS records, or keep current nameservers. If existing DNS records are available, they will be shown here. If not, it will be blank and state that there are <strong>no records to display<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214401\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-ratio-full wp-image-214401\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/nameservers-settings-1-1050x598.png\" alt=\"Nameservers options.\" width=\"1050\" height=\"598\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Choose where you&#8217;d like to manage your DNS in one click.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>If you choose to <strong>Keep Current Nameservers<\/strong>, it will keep the current nameserver records for the domain.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214424\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-ratio-full wp-image-214424\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/Screenshot-2023-01-31-at-7.34.12-AM-1050x631.png\" alt=\"Current nameservers.\" width=\"1050\" height=\"631\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The type of nameserver and TTL is listed.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Once you decide on what&#8217;s best for you, you can continue on&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>And for help pointing a domain to our nameservers, <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/docs\/hub-2-0\/domains\/#change-your-nameservers\" target=\"_blank\">check out our complete guide<\/a> on how to do so.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"transfer\">Step 3: Transfer Registration<\/h2>\n<p>Registering a domain is all done in one area.<\/p>\n<p>You can start by viewing the <strong>Registration Terms<\/strong>. You&#8217;ll notice the transfer price, renewal price, auto-renew option, and an indicator letting you know domain privacy is active.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214384\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-ratio-full wp-image-214384\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/registration-terms-1050x362.png\" alt=\"Post image\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"1050\" height=\"362\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Want auto-renew? It&#8217;s a click away.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Next, the domain will need an <strong>Authorization Code<\/strong> from your current registrar. This is a normal process that is universal amongst domains. You&#8217;ll get this from the losing domain registrar you&#8217;re transferring from.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214417\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-ratio-full wp-image-214417\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/auth-code-1050x309.png\" alt=\"Authorization code area.\" width=\"1050\" height=\"309\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">You&#8217;ll need this code from the domain provider you&#8217;re transferring from.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Additionally, you&#8217;ll also add the <strong>Registrant Information<\/strong>. You can associate the domain with a client or add personal details.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214385\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-ratio-full wp-image-214385\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/registrant-information-1050x1450.png\" alt=\"Registrant information area.\" width=\"1050\" height=\"1450\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">You can always go back and edit this information at any time.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Then, checkout in the <strong>Summary<\/strong>. This has the <strong>Domain Name<\/strong>, <strong>Registration Period<\/strong>, and <strong>Price<\/strong>. Plus, it shows whether <strong>Auto-Renew<\/strong> is activated or not.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214386\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-214386\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/summary.png\" alt=\"The price summary for the domain.\" width=\"702\" height=\"980\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">Read the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for more information.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After hitting <strong>Pay Now<\/strong>, you&#8217;re all set!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By default, the <\/span><b>Registration Period <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of all the transfer-in domains is set to<strong> One<\/strong><\/span><b>\u00a0year<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Pay the transfer fee on our <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/pricing\/\" target=\"_blank\">pricing page<\/a> to transfer a domain to WPMU DEV. Upon successful transfer, the domain&#8217;s expiration date will be extended by one year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s also important to note that i<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">f the Authorization code is invalid, the domain transfer will fail, and the transfer amount will be refunded to your account.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 id=\"process\">The Domain Transfer Process<\/h2>\n<p>Once the new domain transfer-in payment is complete, the <strong>Domain Registration<\/strong> process begins. You&#8217;ll be able to see the status under <strong>Domain Overview<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214387\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-ratio-full wp-image-214387\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/domain-is-transferring-1050x646.png\" alt=\"The transferring status.\" width=\"1050\" height=\"646\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The transferring part is always highlighted in orange.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The system will verify three registrant contact data pieces: <strong>First Name<\/strong>, <strong>Last Name<\/strong>, and <strong>Email Address<\/strong>. For more information about registrant verification, <a href=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/docs\/hub-2-0\/domains\/#registrant-verification\" target=\"_blank\">please read our documentation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When complete, you&#8217;ll see that it&#8217;s <strong>Active OR Verifying<\/strong>. Also, additional information will be displayed (e.g. Registration Date, Expiration date, Costs, etc).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214388\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\" data-caption=\"true\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-ratio-full wp-image-214388\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/domain-active-1050x948.png\" alt=\"Sign indicating that a domain is active.\" width=\"1050\" height=\"948\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">All other information is displayed, too.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Be aware that the <strong>domain transfer can take up to five days<\/strong> \u2013 and that&#8217;s out of our control.
