Is WP just going to become Awesome Motive and Automattic? (And most importantly: Where\u2019s our offer, Syed?)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Oooo\u2026 WP 6.6 To Introduce More Web-Destroying AI Features\u2026 maybe?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When WordPress 6.6 launches on July 16, 2024, it will introduce \u201coverrides\u201d for synced patterns, allowing you to pull content from several different sources.<\/p>\n<p>EMPHASIS: sources!<br \/>\nDOUBLE EMPHASIS: sources!!!!<\/p>\n<p>Does this mean that WP will now automagically be able to import your freshly minted GPT content? Is the autoblogmageddon upon us? Could this be WordPress freshly minting its own demise?<\/p>\n<p>Or is it kinda just a nerdy feature that does what, um, shortcodes have been doing for the last two decades?<\/p>\n<p><strong>One Gravatar To Rule Them All\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Gravatar, which has been quietly powering billions of avatars across the web (including within Slack, OpenAI, Atlassian and more) has <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.gravatar.com\/2024\/06\/03\/profiles-as-a-service\/\" target=\"_blank\">just been updated with a new API<\/a> that allows people to bring in more profile data.<\/p>\n<p>Is this part of a secret conspiracy to slowly take over the web, one collection of carefully curated profile data at a time?<\/p>\n<p>Watch out Gravatar: Awesome Motive just might come and snatch you up too!<\/p>\n<h2>Mind-Bloggling Stats<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>90% of vulnerabilities on the WordPress platform come from outdated plugins, and 6% from outdated themes. Shining a Light on Dark Mode<\/h3>\n<p>We\u2019re glued to our screens for an <a href=\"https:\/\/backlinko.com\/screen-time-statistics\" target=\"_blank\">average of 6 hours and 40 minutes per day<\/a>. It\u2019s no wonder <a href=\"https:\/\/hj.diva-portal.org\/smash\/get\/diva2:1464394\/FULLTEXT01.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">so many of us<\/a> want to switch to dark mode to give our aching retinas a bit of a break.<\/p>\n<p>WordPress block themes are jumping on the dark mode bandwagon, letting you flip between dark and light mode with ease.<\/p>\n<p>But is dark mode ALWAYS better? Or is it just a fad for edgy vampires who love blackout curtains and looking down on lame light-mode losers?<\/p>\n<div class=\"image-grid cgrid-row\">\n<div class=\"cgrid-col cgrid-col-span-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-222987\" src=\"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/light-mode.png\" alt=\"Post image\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"621\" height=\"440\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>Dark Mode: Why bother?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>People love dark mode because it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Makes their eyes less hurty as they lay in bed for 4 hours telling themselves, \u201cOk, just one more reddit AITA thread and then I\u2019ll go to sleep\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Saves battery life, apparently. (Although this is debatable.)<\/li>\n<li>Can reduce the risk of triggering migraines, which do really suck.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, if you have astigmatism, dark mode can cause glowing \u201chalos\u201d around the light characters on the dark background &#8211; which is no doubt pretty annoying.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The downsides?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dark mode pitfalls include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Graphics and backgrounds looking like a hot mess.<\/li>\n<li>Thin fonts \u201cswallowed up\u201d by the dark background.<\/li>\n<li>Too-saturated colors creating a neon nightmare.<\/li>\n<li>QR codes that are impossible to scan. (Looking at you, trendy cocktail bar sites.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can\u2019t just slap a dark mode filter on and call it a day. Good design is still key.<\/p>\n<p>The best solution?
