{"id":36762,"date":"2010-08-11T21:24:17","date_gmt":"2010-08-12T01:24:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wpmu.org\/?p=36762"},"modified":"2010-08-11T21:24:17","modified_gmt":"2010-08-12T01:24:17","slug":"open-source-commercial-support-win","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wpmudev.com\/blog\/open-source-commercial-support-win\/","title":{"rendered":"Open Source + Commercial Support = Win"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fascinating survey out today regarding the SysAdmin attitudes to open source projects, like, you guessed it WordPress :)<\/p>\n<p>Conducted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.zenoss.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Zenoss<\/a> the findings were that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>98% of respondents indicated they used open source software in some form, and on a scale of 1 to 10, rated their satisfaction between 7 and 8.<\/li>\n<li>71% of 2009 respondents indicated that open source was easier than proprietary software to deploy, up from 48% in 2008, 38% in 2007, and 26% in 2006.<\/li>\n<li>Between 2008 and 2009, the percentage of respondents giving financial constraint as their reason for adopting open source software doubled.<\/li>\n<li>76% of sysadmins indicate they prefer to use open source whenever possible.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The number one reason for not choosing open source was a lack of support, following by poor documentation.
