BUG: Updating latest dashboard not working

Updating latest dashboard (4.0.7) not working. Using Multi-Site, everything up-to-data, multi-db, https forced. Currently using dashboard plugin Version 4.0.3

Is there know issue causing the download to be blocked or should I manually download and upload the plugin.

Note: I have just seen the changelog for a prior version to disable automatic updates. I just did that but getting the same results.

It’s a known bug in those versions upto 4.0.6.

You will need to delete the dashboard plugin and then download the latest release and install manually.

Found an easier solution. Was able to go into the native wordpress plugin manager on the network level and perform the update there without issue without deleting the plugin.

After update query count has ballooned to 1500 queries…thoughts? Is that normal?

I only updated 1 of my networks, on my other network query count is at 80. So…wondering if there is a new method that is being used? The marketpress query count is also huge, wondering if the two plugins are using a new method that perhaps isn’t compatible with multi-db or something else?

Going through the queries…this DUPLICATE query is seen repeating itself over and over again (697 times):

UPDATE 'wp_sitemeta' SET 'meta_value' = '' WHERE 'site_id' = 1 AND 'meta_key' = '_site_transient_wdp_un_local_projects'

If I do a search in all the 1513 queries for the string

I get 1393

…soo….i think i found a way to help the developers find their problems…perhaps they could make sure they are testing with multi-db in a multi-site environment. Wondering if this issue is why Marketpress is getting such high query counts and performing so slow.

Maybe we could prioritize this issue…? Looks like it could be the root of many other issues.

Hi,

What are you using for the the querycounts?

I just used P3 profiler on my single site & it counted 117 queries with just the dashboard plugin installed.

Please test with multi-db and in a multi-site environment as this issue is redundantly adding and deleting on site id 1 even when in the plugins section of a subblog.

Testing on a single site and without multi-db won’t replicate the issue.

I can’t use multi-db on my hosting as i’m limited in how many databases I can have unless I upgrade.

I have flagged the developer though to see if he can shed any light on this though.

Ummm…they don’t have central test boxes for this configuration for all support staff set up? @Timothy Bowers should be on top of getting that set up, I’m not understanding that not being there for you.

Until then…suggestion… Digitalocean.com is easy to set up and as low as $5/mo pricing by the hour. You could go here, create the multi-site multi-db config and then just activate the test config when you need it, super cheap and easy.

Not sure what to suggest on this as it’s a bit beyond my expertise in that regard.

Please don’t take this the wrong way, have you considered switching to HyperDB?

It might be a lot more compatible as time goes on as it is supported by WPcore and with further changes to WP core in future releases, whilst it’s working now, I wouldn’t be able to say 100% that multi-db will continue working sayin 6 months or a years time. It might be something to take into consideration at least.

That’s an excellent suggestion, I will review that.

We don’t actually support multi-db anymore though, we discontinued it last year.

I believe that non-support announcement was less than a year ago and there has been no mention (to my knowledge) of any support on transitioning away from the plugin…which now is even more important especially if WPMU dev is no longer even testing with this plugin…can we get some help here or a guide on how to safely transition away or to something else?

Furthermore… it was decommisioned less than a year ago…people paying annual subscriptions should still be receiving support for the plugin that was purchased before the decommission announcement.

Yeah, that’s correct we provide limited support for existing users.

Jose wrote a script called move-blogs-rollback.php which you can add to /wp-content and then run.

This will then rollback all the DB’s back into a single database as though multi-db had never been installed.

Which should help you if you decide to change infuture.

I’m sure I don’t need to remind you to make a complete backup though before using it, just to be safe :slight_smile: But have to say this just in case.

thanks for the update. Any hot fix I can apply right now or eta on the fix? In addition marketpress, i believe the same team working on this project is working on marketpress….which has a query problem. I’ve finished testing and installing woocommerce because the client just can’t take it anymore…and him and I will be working on converting all his products over to woocommerce.

Is the marketpress fix around the corner, or perhaps an eta or hot fix?

the just released VERSION 4.0.8 dramatically reduced the query count to something normal, good job
