how do i add shortcode to a text widget?

im using a BuddyPress Community child theme

im trying to add mycred shortcode to a text widget

[mycred_buy] but is shows up as the shortcode

Add this to your functions.php
```
add_filter('widget_text', 'do_shortcode');
```
This will enable you to use shortcode in text widget.

do i add this to the main theme?

my child theme has no function.php in the child theme folder

If your child theme does not have a functions.php then create it first :slight_smile:

Create a file called functions.php

Then add the code provided by calvin above to this file.

Make sure you add <?php to the very first line & that there is no spaces before it, so it looks like
```
<?php

add_filter('widget_text', 'do_shortcode');
```
Hopefully that should get you going :slight_smile:
