Sitemap gives a 404 error

I have a multisite. I have been using Yoast SEO and change to SmartCrawl. My sitemap is not working. It gives a 404 error.

Could you please try adding the following rewrite in your nginx config:

rewrite ^/(.*/)?sitemap.xml /wp-content/uploads/sitemap.xml last;

hello.

it is not a nginx problem.

The sitemap file does not exist i thing.

Also i have a few other sites on the same server that do not have that problem.

It is actually the only site with that problem.

Could you please share which sites are on the same server and don’t have this issue? I tested with olistiki-ygeia and noticed the same.

The sitemap file does not exist i thing.

You can check if the site is present by visiting your-site.com/wp-content/uploads/sitemap.xml or checking out that folder via ftp (/wp-content/uploads).

It mostly looks like a redirect issue and I think it’s worth the try to add that redirect rule in your config file. If this doesn’t work at least we can exclude this :slight_smile:

That’s is weird, as it seems like a redirect issue.

Have you tried plugin/theme conflict by deactivating plugins and using default twenty seventeen theme?

Lets see… it will take maybe a month to resolve that ticket….

It is my worst experience all this years with WPMU support.

So i will have to take off that line of code from the server now …. or not ?

No reason to live unnecessary code and after we are looking for what is not working…..

About plugin conflict …

I have the ssl insecure content plugin.

if i take it of the address will change ….

Sorry for his taking so long!

Since that redirect didn’t fix this issue you should probably remove it.

I have not understood, you have tried deactivating all plugins and still the sitemap.xml gives a 404?

Could I also try deactivating them to check?

Thanks for sending this info!

It seems it’s something in configuration. The sitemap.xml is not loading any plugins. I added a mu-plugin that should print some text on the init hook, but when visiting the sitemap.xml it prints nothing.

I would first suggest you mention this to your host in case he can help out. Else you can send us the configuration file so we can have a look and try add it to my site and see if I can replicate. In case you send us the config, please use again the contact form as you did with the ftp credentials.

It’s the nginx.conf file that includes the configuration settings, but it’s location may vary depending on the setup. It could be located in /etc/nginx/nginx.conf or /usr/local/nginx/conf/nginx.conf or other. You should ask your host about it’s location. Once you send it in could you also post here so I get notified faster?

It’s hard to get to a solution if we can’t see the settings.

Here is another idea, suggest your host to try the following:
```
location ~ ^/(sitemap.xml) {

root /var/www/html/wp-content/uploads;

}
```
I added this in the /etc/nginx/sites-available/default file on my nginx setup. I tried this with Smartcrawl disabled and it worked, when visiting the sitemap.xml it did load the wp-content/uploads/sitemap.xml file. The path should be probably different but your host would know which it is, so instead of root /var/www/html/wp-content/uploads; he’ll need to replace with the correct one.

Please suggest this to your host and hopefully it should do the redirection this time.
