SmartCrawl homepage title tag issue.

Homepage title tag is not working instead it is showing the title tag from the most recent post.

Hope you had a great day!

I’ve taken a closer look at your site and have noted that you are using Extra theme, thing is that there is a conflict between Extra theme and SmartCrawl. To learn more about this you can look at the following thread:

To make sure that it’s a theme conflict, you can try to switch theme to one of the default WordPress themes and check if the issue still persists.

As you can see from the thread I have mentioned above, the issue occurs only when An Extra Theme Layout (select below) is selected from Settings -> Reading -> Front Page Displays. As a workaround you can choose one of the following options:

– Your latest posts

– A static page (select below)

If it’s not ok for you, I would recommend you to use YOAST SEO, as I found out, it should be fully compatible with your theme.

Thanks—that’s helpful to know.

Any way to overwrite the homepage title through explicit code in my functions.php file? Not sure if that is a possibility, but I thought it might work since it’s just the homepage (which I won’t necessarily change the title of that much) that I’m having trouble with.

Any way to overwrite the homepage title through explicit code in my functions.php file?

This is possible using a few lines of code. If you have SmartCrawl active and configured to change the title, then you can change it for the home page using the following code:
```
add_filter('wds_title', 'change_home_title', 11, 1);



function change_home_title( $title ) {

if ( is_page( array('home',13779) ) ) {

error_log("Is page and page = show_in_front");

return "My Custom Title";

}

}
```
Where ‘home’ is the slug of the page set as the home page, and 13779 is the ID of that page, you can get the page ID in the browser’s address bar when editing the page (yourdomain/wp-admin/post.php?post=13779&action=edit)

Basically, the code hooks to SmartCrawl’s ‘wds_title’ filter which was designed specifically for this purpose. You only need to change the following line so that it includes the details of your home page:

if ( is_page( array('home',13779) ) ) {

Change to:

if ( is_page( array('slug-of-the-home-page', $id_of_the_home_page) ) ) {

I tested this and it worked on my setup and I hope it works for you too. If this does not work out of the box then you may try to use the following functions instead of the ‘is_page()’ check:
```
is_home()

is_front_page()

'page' == get_option('show_on_front' )
```
