Subsites admin don't have Smart Crawl metaboxes

Hi,

Subsites admin don’t have Smart Crawl metaboxes (on page / post edit).

Smart Crawl is network activated. I checked the setting but everything seems ok:

Show metaboxes to users

This applies to create/edit Post pages

Show SEO metabox to role : Admin

Within SEO metabox, show 301 redirection to role : SuperAdmin

Show Moz metabox to role : Admin

Any idea?

Hope you’re doing well today!

From what I checked in you network, you enabled the access to SmartCrawl on the sub-sites, adding this “define”:

define( 'WDS_SITEWIDE', false );

So, those settings needs to be done site by site, or should be done in the network admin panel before add the “define” to the wp-config.php.

I checked your network, created a new user and added as an Admin of a subsite, and after change those settings (subsite -> Settings -> SmartCrawl) the metaboxes were displayed in the posts/pages.

So, if you want all site admins have access to those metaboxes, I think the best option is comment the “define” in the wp-config.php, change those settings in the network admin panel (Settings -> SmartCrawl) and then, uncomment the “define” again.

OK I get it.

What I want is (see pictures):

– to define a default behavior (defaukt for all subsites)

Show SEO metabox to role : Subsite Admin

Within SEO metabox, show 301 redirection to role : SuperAdmin

Show Moz metabox to role : Subsite Admin

– to let subsites admins change these settings on their subsite

If I understand you correctly it’s not possible, because when I allow my site admins to adjust their settings they always need to go in subsite -> Settings -> SmartCrawl first. Correct?

UPDATE about the pics:

subsite-settings is what I see for the subsite AFTER I set the network-settings. I think there’s a bug, isn’t there?

Firstly, sorry for the late reply and all the problems it may have caused.

From what I tested in my install we have two situations here:

1) If you configure the settings in the network panel (as you mentioned in your previous reply) and enable the per blog mode (adding the define in your wp-config.php), these settings were be applied to all your subsites.

2) If you configure the settings in the network panel and "Allow Site Admin access" to the Settings section of SmartCrawl, it will not save these defaults and the Site Admins will always need to adjust this in their settings (subsite -> Settings -> SmartCrawl) as you mentioned.

I think these should not be considered as a bug, but a feature request, because I think this was the way it was designed, you can define the settings as Super Admin or allow Site Admins to access and define the settings. So, I think it would be a nice feature if we could define the defaults and also left the Site Admins to adjust the settings.

However, I pinged the developer to get his valuable feedback about this.

I’ve spoken with the Lead Dev on this project about your suggestions. At this time, these features are not currently slated to be added. However, he stated the following:
…they can already force capabilities access like they want, programatically via defines and filters

defines:

WDS_SEO_METABOX_ROLE WDS_URLMETRICS_METABOX_ROLE WDS_SEO_METABOX_301_ROLE

filters:

wds-capabilities-seo_metabox wds-capabilities-urlmetrics_metabox wds-capabilities-seo_metabox_301_redirect

Now, since we _do_ have filters, the “fallback defaults” behavior they’re after can be implemented with a little bit of custom code
So, if this is something that is essential to your business model, you will need to do a bit of custom coding to achieve it. The code you’ll want to look into for reference is in wpmu-dev-seo/includes/core/core.php

I hope this clarifies a bit.
