Wish List of e-Newsletter Features

0

I came across this plugin today and from what I've seen so far, it looks absolutely gorgeous. I just can't use it because it's missing too many features. I'm currently using the ALO Easymail plugin which has some good (not great) features which I don't see here and is missing some your features.

1) Bulk import (unless I'm missing this somewhere). The widget signup is great, but I do networks of sites for a large non-profit organization which already has it's own mailing list. I need to be able to import the existing lists and assign the recipients to one or more lists.

2) The ability to use a post as an email subject and include an excerpt in the body. ALO currently allows this. I used to use the old Bloghoster program (www.bloghoster.net) and they took that one step further with a feature that my users loved. In Bloghoster before they published, they could click a Yes/No box that said "Send to mailing list" and an email with a predetermined text template would go out to their entire mailing list as soon as they published. That was awesome integration and a huge traffic generator. (See attached screenshots)

3) I'll echo the comment from the other thread which said that each site in a multisite installation needs to have their own mailing lists. There's no way on God's green Earth I would want my subsite users to have access to my master mailing lists.

4) ALO recently went to a system where their newsletters get published to the website as well so those who have trouble reading the emails can read them online. (This isn't crucial for me, but it is a nice feature.

5) Would also like to see some documentation on the available shortcodes for templates. The templates you have are nice, but I'm sure my customer would want a custom template.

All that being said, it looks like you're off to a great start and I'm looking forward to leaving ALO behind.

    Hiya theshu,

Can’t tell ya how wonderful it is and how much it means to get detailed feedback like what you’ve provided here. We’ll definitely take each item under consideration and I’m going to ask the developer to read through each of these ideas as well.

Number 3, especially, makes good sense and 2 & 4 also sound really good. There’s only so many hours in the day of course, but we’ll see what we ca do. Anybody else have some ideas to share? Anything here you can’t live without?

    Chime in below! Thanks!

Yes, bulk import is probably the biggest thing for us too. We work with a couple of dealerships that have large mailing lists (which they acquired legally from existing customers) and we’d love to stop using Campaign Monitor and start using this exclusively, however, at this time, there’s no good way to import a large list. Where are those emails stored in the enewsletter plugins files and perhaps there’s a way to copy and paste large numbers of email addresses in there for the time being?

One other nice function to have would be to have more than just name and email fields. There are lots of reasons for this especially if you can integrate auto responders. This would be great for birthday reminders, etc.

Also, would love to see some better analytics besides just if it was opened or not. In the meantime, I actually found this AWESOME free resource: http://www.campaigncog.com to track each campaign, now I just need to have the capability of importing a large number of email addresses.

Can you help with a dirty solution for importing larger numbers of subscribers now while you work on a better solution to import from like a CSV or excel file?

Hi, this looks very promising, though we can’t leave it enabled in our multisite environment with access to the master email list. i think starting with an empty subscriber list is fine.

The ability to bring in and possibly order recent posts is definitely a feature our users want. We have looked at MeeNews: http://www.wp-newsletter.com/ which has a great interface for adding posts, though other aspects are not as polished.

The MeeNews interface is slick, but supporting a short code in the templates would be fine also. Maybe something like:

    [post-excerpts category=”latest-news” posts=”8″ feature-image-left=Y]

    Many thanks!

    Andrey,

This is such a sweet little plugin, thanks. Not only will bulk import be good but bulk export (since I am using the same mailing list that I have now typed in to newsletter plugin on a different site).

Thanks for your hard work. Loving this one…

I just now realized this would expose the mail list to sub-sites. This changes everything. I’d like to plus one for that feature. Now I need an alternate.

    +1 private sub-site mailing lists

    +1 shortcodes and recent post

+1 auto message functions rolled in

I am new to the plugin… right now the image upload is broken but assuming this will be fixed soon. I noticed that if I activate the plugin AFTER I added users to wordpress, these users don’t show in the members.

Anyway to sync the plugin with the existing wordpress users that got created prior to the plugin being activated?

    Hiya bangfruit,

    Sure you’re in!

Andrey’s always looking at ways to improve the plugin. Did you know we have a separate automessage plugin available? Analytics would be a rather massive undertaking as we’d have to find a way to track all those messages and probably host that on our own servers.. will have to think on that.

Thanks for your contribution here. Feel free to come back by with more
