request "no thumbnail" option for BP Activity Plus

0

BP Activity plus needs a No Thumbnail option (just like on Facebook) when embedding a link. Not all link targets have thumbnail worthy images so having the option not to use one would be helpful.

Any chance of adding an option to also change the text used with the link/not show the text used?

A couple of times I have noticed when adding a link it grabs inappropriate text to display below the link.

For instance if linking to a site’s home page and there is a slider at the top with a text caption overlaying the images. The plugin will grab the text from the first slide. Not always very meaning full – and occasionally a very odd choice of words. Particularly if you opt for the new no thumbnail option.

    Hiya wotacharlie,

I’m just thinking – if you want to display a link to a site and not include a default thumnbail or text pulled from the site – you probably shouldn’t even use this plugin for that. Just copy the link URL and add your own text right in the activity stream

    Thanks!

It is not that I don’t want to show text from the site or a thumbnail.

It is that sometimes the result isn’t want you want.

If you are going to put on button on a site for adding links it needs to handle any link that someone throws at it.

Say for example a user decides to add a link to your twitter page

They copy in the link and hit preview. It is not very useable if the user has to cancel and then copy the link into the text box above because it looks bad.

In addition most of the images on a twitter page are smaller than the thumbnail size set, so you end up with a blurred image.

It would be good to not have to show – Forgot Password?

Wotacharlie makes a good point, but this exact thing is something that facebook struggles with too, because I’ve experienced that problem on facebook.

The plugin is a great way to let users know that they can easily add links to the stream. Usability and user interface is an important issue here and this plugin offers exactly what we need.
