Set up similar to a dating site

Hi all. I signed up here today and am very new to WP. I have no idea what Buddypress or Multisite does. I’m just finding my way around WP. So I’m a total newbie. I do have one WP site that I’m currently building, which is a recipe hobby site (at the moment). I’ve had websites before but I used a drag and drop sitebuilder, so even though I know about marketing, Pandas and Penguins etc, I have barely no knowledge on the techy side of things. I’m just warning you I am thick when it comes to this stuff ok? :slight_smile:

So what I really want to create is a system similar to a dating site. It isn’t going to be a dating site but I need people to be able to search for people by location and criteria (the criteria I set up). So I don’t want the typical dating type questions. In the future I may pay someone to build it from the ground up but for now I’m hoping I can put something pretty sturdy together using various plugins. I’ve looked at the dating site plugins and it seems you can’t change the questions. Also, I don’t even mind paying someone to put this site together for me (depending on the cost) or to advise me of the best plugins/themes to use as I’m spending far too much time researching this.

    To start with, you can use BuddyPress to create a social network in which you can create different groups and offer chatting to friends etc.

    Using our Membership plugin, you can charge your users to be a part of a group and earn some extra bucks.

    I don’t think the WP dating plugin will be suitable as I don’t think I can change the questions (if anyone knows otherwise, please let me know). This is enough for me to look at for now. Will see if I can understand it and if not, it’s nice to know I can just pay someone to do it for me.

    Ha!! I’ve just realised something. Themes can be designed for different types of sites!!!!! I’ve just been looking around and there are themes for social sites!!!!!

    Sooooo, seeing as I’ve just realised this (teeheeeeee told you I was thick), can I ask if anyone knows of the easiest social theme in way of designing my site? Drag and drop of design options built in would be good. I get the themes free I think?

    Sorry about the delay here however that is totally unintentional. We provide same level of support to all our members. Its just that one of our staff members left and we had to take over his feed which delayed the response times.

    However, as far as getting themes for free is concerned, its not all the themes that are free. There are a few themes which are free but not good to use.

    One more question. I can only find 31 themes but I thought I got around 350 to choose from with the Bronze membership? Have I got that wrong? Thankyou.

    You got 31 theme projects. Out of which 1 is a Farms 133 themes pack which contains 133 themes so in total there are 163 themes :slight_smile:

    No, this is great – thanks a lot. No worries about the late reply – so long as I know I get this support on the Bronze plan as I was thinking I was mistaken and I’m tired of signing up for things and then finding not all is at it was advertised.This is very good!!

    Also, for anyone else viewing this thread – the Dynamik (premium) theme is (for me) easier to use than Elegant or Headway themes. I’ve used all of these and even though the Dynamik theme isn’t drag and drop – it is still easier to use for a newbie as you can simply change a lot of the design elements in their Design settings. :slight_smile:
