    Hi @Clive Baldwin

    Welcome to the forums!

Yah, email settings can sometimes be a real PITA to configure just right.

It is likely that the correct ports are not open on your server. This is almost always the case when the test connection fails.

SMTP ports can change for each user, although it’s very unlikely. Most use standard ports.

Google requires a much higher port than standard SMTP (25) that most people probably use. Unfortunately we can’t force their/your host to open ports so that the plugin can communicate through them.

Here are settings you can test with until you find the configuration that works on your install.

Also, see the examples and links on the plugin usage page:

    https://wpmudev.com/project/e-newsletter/#usage

    Gmail SMTP port: 465

    Gmail SMTP TLS/SSL required: yes

    POP3 – port 110

    IMAP – port 143

    SMTP – port 25

    HTTP – port 80

Secure SMTP (SSMTP) – port 465

    Secure IMAP (IMAP4-SSL) – port 585

    IMAP4 over SSL (IMAPS) – port 993

    Secure POP3 (SSL-POP) – port 995

    Hope this helps.

    @Clive Baldwin

Oh dear, I’m very sorry. I’ve been having these damned hiccups with my feed reader lately (!) and appear to have missed the notification that you had indeed emailed us login info to your site. I checked our contact inbox though and your email is there.

I see that you have found an alternative solution, but would you like me to still take a look? I have no difficulty in getting the email setup on my test sites.
