e-newsletter not working suddenly

Hi,

I seem to have developed issues with e-newsletter on several sites. I have tried as much as I can find in the forums but with no success.

Firstly, the bounce email no longer seems to be connecting giving error on test

Warning</b>: imap_open() [function.imap-open]: Couldn’t open stream {mail.schoolinformer.com:110/pop3/notls}INBOX in <b>/home/schoolin/public_html/wp-content/plugins/e-newsletter/email-newsletter-files/class.functions.php</b> on line <b>1619………

Also, whilst the smtp settings seem to be testing fine on this domain, on another, I am unable to get a successful test despite trying every possible combination of smtp settings and even duplicating from one that is working.

This error is

Failed to send test email! – Please check your outgoing email settings and server config to see if selected ports are open. Error details: The following From address failed: newsletter@oldewtermill.co.uk : Called Mail() without being connected

Any ideas – it was working fine previously

Thanks

Stef

    Hi @Vaughan

    Thanks for the quick response.

I tried this on http://schoolinformer.com but the bounce test still fails.

on oldewatermill.co.uk the version is already the latest. I have no success with either smtp or bounce test – even with the same successful smtp settings from http://schoolinformer.com the test still fails.

I have also just noticed that I am unable to assign a subscriber to a group. after selecting a group and saving, it still shows as ‘unsubscribed’

    Aghhhhh. lol

    Hi @stefanie

It could be the host yes.

It could be that the email address you are using in the from field in the SMTP settings is not authorized to use your smtp server for relaying. it might be that your host could look into that and allow that email address to be used to relay.

    Hope this helps

    Hi @ Vaughan

    I guessed as much.

I have just found the subscription issue is being caused by the slide-in plugin. I had the newsletter widget embedded in the slide in. When subscribing using this method, there appears to be an issue caused that will not allow the user to be assigned to a group.

I don’t know if this is known or not but maybe it should be highlighted to the developer ?

Thanks for the help. I will contact the host in the morning.

    Hi @Vaughan

I contacted the host who assure me that there should be no restriction/block or otherwise that is stopping this from working.

Sadly, I am no further toward fixing this. I cannot get a successful smtp connection or bounce test.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Stefanie,

I had the same port blocking problem with my host. I actually have my own internal SMTP servers, but no longer wanted to host my website in-house. It was annoying to find that I could not use my own email server with them!
