How do I get the Permalink menu item back…?

I installed the Remove Permalink Menu and activated it. Then, I deactivated it and uninstalled the plugin.

But, the plugin seems to be a little too effective as the Permalink menu item is still hidden.

How can I get it back?

I have seen this in another member’s question (marked as resolved – but he fixed it by reinstalling WP!!!)

have the same problem and I don’t want to reinstall WordPress to get the permalinks menu back. Surely it can’t be rocket science? I’m not afraid to edit any of the settings in the WP database directly using Navicat. I just cannot seem to find what I need to change in order to restore the Pemalinks menu item.

    Hi Caucus,

Can you try installing Ultimate branding plugin, then activate the ‘remove permalink menu’ module.

Refresh the page, then disable the permalinks module again.

Hopefully that should get it back. The plugin doesn’t change anything in the DB for permalinks as that data isn’t stored in the DB, it just unsets the permalink menu item array, so removing the plugin should get it back.

    If it doesn’t reappear,

You could perhaps use a plugin such as admin menu editor to add the menu back.

Just add a new item for

    options-permalink.php

    Hope this helps

I uninstalled & deleted Ultimate Branding the reinstalled & activated it. I still got the message that the Permalinks Menu Item was hidden. So I installed Admin Menu Editor (the interface is far from intuitive :slight_frown: btw). Following your instruction to add the new item “options-permalink.php” all is now returned to normal.

I have spent 2 days researching online for this solution – not 24/7! but all the stuff I found was of no use at all. I am impressed by your answer and I just wish the documentation for using Admin Menu Editor was better. It seems to me that it is aimed at highly experienced WP programmers.

Anyway, thanks once more for your help.

PS – In Ultimate Branding I still get the message that “The Permalinks menu item is hidden.” in the Permalinks tab. I can only access it as a result of creating the new menu item with Admin Menu Editor.

    Hi Caucus,

    Thank you for your reply.

I have tested on my test site using both plugins Remove Permalinks Menu and Ultimate branding plugin ‘remove permalink menu’ module and found it’s working fine, it’s getting hidden when i activate it and getting displayed when i deactivate it.

If you are using any cache plugin/system then try temporary deactivating it.

Would you mind if I logged in to your site and did some testing? This might help get to the bottom of this faster. If this is ok, just grant me temporary admin access to your site by clicking “Grant Access” button in the WPMU DEV Dashboard Settings as described on the following page and reply on this thread after granting it?

    Hi Vinod

Support access is ACTIVE until November 3, 2014 11:20 pm

I have got the Permalinks back by using a workaround (Admin Menu Editor). If you look at Branding plugin you will see that the permalinks menu item is hidden.

I have a more serious problem which is supposed to be being dealt with by Ari, but he seems to have given up on it. “Our members receive spectacular support with a lightning-fast response rate.” should read “Sometimes our members may receive spectacular support with a lightning-fast response” rate.
