Social Marketing: Adding field for text to share

Hi Everyone. Hope you are well today :smiley:

Could you give any advice on adding an additional input field for this plugin. I would like to have a field that allows for text to be added to the ‘share’. For example, I will always want to encourage using the #todaysvisions. If I can add that to the ‘share’ then I have provided an auto reminder :smiley:

That sounds like a cool idea!

You can actually do that now by using the Advanced Settings when inserting your ad, and taking advantage of a cool pseudo-element in CSS.

When adding an ad to a post/page, click the Advanced Settings link and add a custom class to the container (screenshot).

Then add the following custom CSS to your theme’s style-sheet, or use a plugin like Simple Custom CSS for all your styling needs:

.adtext::after {content:"Please remember to add #todaysvisions when sharing. Thanks!";}

Change .adtext in the above CSS to the actual class name you’re using.

You can use the following code in your theme’s footer.php after wp_footer():

Now I see what you mean. Please go to /wp-content/plugins/social-marketing/lib/services/class_wdsm_twitter_service.php line no 27 and replace

to

Please note that, this changes will be lost in next update. So it’s worth to note down this changes somewhere and apply again after your updates.

Well, now I have another issue. See attached image. The tweet button is not showing at all – instead I see the “You’ve Like” from facebook. This is happening on: http://fancycuttingboards.todaysvisions.com while on http://indieplus.todaysvisions.com/go-social/ the twitter button show up. BTW, the setting for both are the same. :disappointed:

I have not made that change yet. I am investigating how to pull the post content from the database :slight_smile: as that is what I wish to populate it with. Thanks

It’s maybe possible but needs some extra custom code to modify the plugin.

About the overriding twitter field issue, it seems a conflict. Would you run a plugin conflict test using the flowchart here?

It is working on http://indie.todaysvisions.com/go-social/ but not on http://fancycuttingboards.todaysvisions.com/gosocial/# Until I started playing with the plugins on fancycuttingboards they were identical. Logically, it cannot be a conflict.

Until I started playing with the plugins on fancycuttingboards they were identical. Logically, it cannot be a conflict.

It still can be a conflict. Maybe both plugin are using same function name or class name or anything else?

Well, as far as plugins I am fairly adamant the crafty social buttons remain. IT’s connection to etsy will really help. I am willing to forgo the social login – although it is nice.

I guess I am still confused with what works on the demo site does not work on the fancy cuttingboards site – even though they have the same software and plugins.

There has to be some difference there that I am not seeing.

After going into the settings for both of the ads:

And disabling the Facebook share button (setting it to “Don’t show this service”:wink:, saving the settings, and then re-enabling the Facebook share button, I’m seeing that the Twitter share button is showing up as it should be now.

Not sure why this hiccup took place presently, but at least we know of a way to resolve it, should it rear it’s head again. :slight_smile:
