How do I prevent people from registering on their own for Membership2

HI,

I just installed an configured Membership2 Pro. What I’m trying to do is have members only access certain pages, but it’s not a paid membership. I don’t want anyone to be able to sign up, only whoever I allow.

Right now I have it set up so that certain pages are protected and only members of the “Parents” group can access. But what good is that if anyone can just click on “Register” and become a member?

How do I make it that only those who I allow can register?

Either with a PW that I will provide them, or I would add only whoever I want. Or some other way?

In other words, how do I get rid of the “Register” link that appears on every protected page. That is a free pass into protected contact, so whats the point of having protection?

Thanks for the help!

    Hey Gil,

I hope you're well today and thank you for your question!

The simplest way is to set membership as private. Such a membership won't be displayed on your site and users won't be able to register for it. To do so, please go to your dashboard's

    "Membership2" -> "Memberships" page

and click "Edit" link right below the selected membership, then switch "This membership is public" slider to "No" (see image). You'll still be able to manually assign this membership to users.

    I hope that helps!

    Cheers,

    Adam

Thank you Adam for the quick reply.

    Ok, that partially solves it.

But even doing that, the "Register" link still appears on the protect page (see attached screenshot).

Granted, they can't join the specific group, but now I'll end up having all these "orphan" members who have registered but don't belong to any group.

Isn't there a way built in to remove that register link? Why does it need to be there it it's a private group?

And there does not seem to be a way to delete users from the system once they've registered (is there?).

Also, what is the function of the check boxes (see screenshot)? I don't see any options once they've been ticked…

    Hey Gil!

Do you protect post/page content with a shortcode or otherway? Please advise. It would be also great if you could point me to an example of such a protected content.

As for members removal and checkboxes, I think we’ll need a helping hand from our 2nd-line support here. That being said, I’ve notified them about the issue, so please keep an eye on this thread for further information.

    Cheers,

    Adam

    HI Patrick and Adam,

I didn’t really understand the answer to my 2 questions.

    1. What are the checkboxes for

    2. The instructions from Patrick above is for deleting WP users. I mean to delete Membership2 members.

    Hello Gil,

    I hope you’re fine today!

The checkboxes on the members list page should allow you to perform bulk actions on members (for example: delete them or move to another membership). This should work pretty much the same as checkboxes on “Plugins” page of WordPress.

As I’ve previously mentioned, the fact the they don’t act like this isn’t a designed behavior so I need some help from our developers team with it. It might turn out to be either a wrong configuration which I’m not able to spot at the moment or (and it’s more likely) the bug in plugin’s code. I’m sure our developers will find it and fix it soon.

As for Patrick’s instruction’s above. Please note that this didn’t come from a support staff member. Patrick is a member of our community, as you are and I think this is really great that he’s trying to help. However you’re right, he’s referring to deleting WP users and this is not the same.

So far, the only option here seems to be removing memberships assignments from members manually, one by one. To do this, please go to your dashboard’s

“Membership2” -> “Members” page and for all the members you wish to remove from any given membership just click on the “X” sign on the membership name that’s displayed in the same line as username.

This should be fixed of course along with checkboxes issue. Please keep an eye on this thread for further information and updates.

    Have a good day!

    Adam
