Paypal changeover to SHA-256: Anything to do with plugins like MarketPress?

An hour ago paypal informed me, that “at any time between now and end of September” the certificate for http://www.paypal.com will be updated to SHA-256. This would (so they say) affect the usage of the IPN.

At checkout MarketPress uses the IPN mechanism to find out, if the customer has actually paid with paypal (right?).

So my question: Is my store affected by this certificate change?

Or should I rather ask this question my web hosting company (which presumably is responsible for the certificates used by the server where my store is hosted)?

Thank you for any hints!

    Hey Emanaku,

    Hope you’re doing well today.

I spoke with our project manager and all of our plugins that use IPN, including MarketPress, should already be good to go  she is going to check with all the developers again just in-case.

With that said, your site may need an updated SSL cert/or your server might need updating if it’s not sha-256 compatible, so yes checking with your host would be a good idea.

    Hope this helps!

    Cheers,

    Tyler
