Top Nav Menu problem

How do I get the top nav menu page links back into their original position? It always ends up moving to the top of the page.

Also please keep in mind that I will be adding more pages to that navigation bar and will also be getting rid of the Spirit logo on left so hopefully i can still end up with these elements in their right position.

    Hi Dave,

Hope you are doing good today.

You need to add padding to your menu, in order to get it aligned properly. Once you click the menu settings icon, under Navigation Settings > Advanced Settings add a value for padding. I have made the following changes, and it now you menu looks the way you want.

    Hi Dave,

Hope you are doing good today.

. I thought that change was global though.

As mentioned, in the previous thread. This will be fixed in the latest version of Upfront, so that the changes made are global. Current workaround would be to repeat these steps for your menus in other pages.

Please let us know if you still need any further assitance. Have a nice day.

Still not working. I double click each link one by one. Here is one example but again they were all double clicked on individually.

“OUR CHALLENGES” select Navigation Settings and looked at the pad settings. It says in sequence starting from top 15/15/0/15

They all had the same exact settings but testing the website and clicking these links they either just position to the top or the side with maybe one or two positioning themselves in the middle.

To make matters worse, the links keeps changing position. For instance while in Upfront I select “OUR CHALLENGE” Go to page. Now the OUR CHALLENGE page is on the right most end of the nav menu. And did not even save anything. So now I check the website (not in Upfront) but the actual website and indeed the new positions were changed.

Why did I select Go To Page? Because I wanted to see if by selecting them like that if I would be able to fix the problem.

Either way, trying what I did or following your instructons did not work. There seems to be a problem with the system but if it’s me please advise.

    Thanks

    Hello Dave,

I'm not able to replicate issue with padding on your site by following your steps. Menu is working fine, elements are not on the top of the green bar (not in the front end or in the editor):

Please advise how can I see this issue? Maybe it is browser problem? What browser do you use?

    Hello Dave,

I spoke too soon – I found the issue on FAQ page. This is problem related to bug that was found in this version of the theme. Global regions are not properly updating through whole website. So even you changed paddings on the home page, change was not propagated to other pages, because of the bug :slight_frown:

Bug is fixed in the upcoming release of Upfront and now only way is to do change padding on all pages.

    kind regards,

    Kasia

I have no clue what your solution is, as you have not supplied me with detailed steps on how to do this. As I mentioned I did what I thought was changing each individual menu item padding but I am still seeing the same problem. Can you at least provide a detailed documentation on hoew to change each individual page padding?

Current workaround would be to repeat these steps for your menus in other pages.

Again, I either already did that or trying to do that. I do not know where the detail steps are to get that done.

I am testing in Firefox and Chrome as well as Internet Explorer.

    Hello Dave,

Please see here screen https://wpmudev.com/forums/topic/top-nav-menu-problem#post-1112248 on how to change padding for menu element. You don’t need to change it for each item in the menu, but only for whole element. You have to edit all the pages where issue is and change top padding for menu.

At the moment I can see issue on page /rules/, so you need to open this page, click Upfront icon in admin bar at the top and change padding for menu element.

Let me know if you have more questions.

    kind regards,

    Kasia

Sorry to say the problem still exists. Let me be clear that now what is happening is menu items are shifting right or left as you click on them.

Click and observe when the next page opens the menus will shift slightlyleft or right depending. This is happening throughout as you click on any page link.

Rushing out to work so if I am nor clear I will post back. Let me know.

    Hi Dave,

Hope you are doing good today.

Let me be clear that now what is happening is menu items are shifting right or left as you click on them.

I checked all your pages, with and without Upfront editor, and I’m not able to see any menu items shifting right.

However I did notice that the menu in your /special-offers page wasn’t arranged in the same order as other menu, is that what you were mentioning about? If yes, I corrected that by arranging the Menu Structure under Navigation Settings, as seen in the screenshot below:

If the issue is related to something else, please do let us know whether you are having it in any specific pages, and possibly a screenshot would be helpful too.

Please do note there is a new version of Upfront 1.3.3 available, which should fix issues related to global regions. You can find the update link under WPMU DEV > Themes.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you still need any further assistance. Have a nice day.

Sorry but I think a video will be more appropriate to further illustrate. Otherwise I will only be sending you the same menus with no way to illustrate the actual problem since this is happening in real time. The one I noticed now still doing it is the “SCHEDULE” page.

So here is how I reproduced the problwem.

    From the “OUR CHALLENEGES” page.

I click on the “SCHEDULE” page. If you sit and stare at that menu while it is loading you will notice that once the SCHEDULE page loads it will shift slightly to the right.

If you then click on the OUR CHALLENGES link or any of the other link, the menus will slighly shift left. Same behaviour in a different direction.

Again, it seems to be doing this only on the “SCHEDULE page but I am not 100% sure if that is the only one with the problem.

Might be best viewed in IE

    Hi Dave,

Hope you are doing good today.

Thank you for sharing the video, I have re-saved your menu settings, and now I don’t see any shifting as see in your videos. Please clear your browser cache, and cookies, and check whether you are still having issues.

Please check the screencast of your admin, it seems to work fine from my side, I tested using Firefox: http://www.screencast.com/t/gzmjbaFdlxp8

Unable to connect to your video

“We are unable to connect to the content you’ve requested. We apologize for the inconvenience.” Or I get a blank page, then it plays and then not play sorry. I use Chrome, Firefox and IE

I do apologize for any inconveniences but I went down the entire links one at a time and this is what is happening. As you can see there is a definite pattern between some page menus that are shifting and those that are not.

Sorry if this is overkill just wanted to be clear to you what I am seeing on my end.

Also I may have to remove the Social Media icons in the top right hand corner not sure yet. Then also add another page link to that menu with the problem (Join Now) so hopefully it won’t throw things off once the menu is fixed.

    Hello Dave,

Could you check your site because we are getting “ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT” while trying to check this issue.

One of my colleges was able to confirm that on IE edge only but before we could investigate this issue site stopped working.

Please confirm when it will start working again.

    kind regards,

    Hi Dave,

Hope you are doing good today.

Sorry if I’m repeating myself, but could you please share a screencast video of the issue. I made my colleagues to test this issue in different browsers, and OS, but they weren’t able to replicate this issue. Could you please share the following information, so that we would have a clear idea regarding this:

    1) In which all browsers do you find this happening? or is this specific to one browser. I tested this with Chrome, Firefox, and IE in Linux, and Windows, but the menu doesn’t seem to shift.

    2) Please clear your browser cookies, and cache, and check whether you are still able to replicate this?

Please do let us know, so that we could help troubleshoot, and resolve asap.

    Best Regards,

    Nithin

I already sent s previous example http://paraisocz.com/page-menu-shift.htm and also a detail explanation of the problem above.

    Seen above below this statement…

    >>Unable to connect to your video

“We are unable to connect to the content you’ve requested. We apologize for the inconvenience.” Or I get a blank page, then it plays and then not play sorry. I use Chrome, Firefox and IE<<

There (above) I explained the problem in detail)

If I have to take the time to keep doing videos of each instance of the problem I may blow the deadline. Understand that my work hours on this project are very very seriously very limited and I still have lots of grounds to cover. Tonight I only have about one to two hours to make some progress in other areas of the website.

Sorry folks but this is backing me up and I may not make the deadline for the client. Honestly i do not mean to be rude and I do appreciate you folks help I really do.

If you can help fine if not I will have to leave it like that and get back to it maybe when the website goes live or if I still have time later.

Again I do appreciate your help either way. I cannot thank you enough.

    Hi Dave,

Sorry for the inconvenience, I was able to notice the issue when I checked your website, during the time you shared the video, but re-saving the menu settings, as mentioned in my previous reply seemed to clear the issue, but it didn’t work in your side. I then, asked my colleagues to check whether they are able to notice this shifting, but they weren’t able to notice this, hence that made me ask a new video of the issue.

I do understand that it’s pretty tough to make videos regarding this, in your limited time, and really appreciate all the details you have provided so far.

Could you please enable support access, so that we could test, and check this further, and help get this sorted for you.

Please let us know once you enable support access, have a nice day.

    Hi Nithin,

Hope you are doing good today.

I checked your website extensively, and the menu shifting is not an issue with the theme, it’s the way your browser renders the page, and it’s not a common scenario which everyone can replicate.

    There are two cases:

    1) If you look closely, when the page loads, the browser scroll bar is present, then when you click a page which doesn’t have a scrollbar, the theme adjusts to fit the space of the scroll bar, hence it feels like the menu shifts. If you then go back to a page which contains a scroll bar, then the page then shrinks a bit so that it can include the scrollbar.

    2) When the page loads, sometimes the scroll bar takes time to load, hence the page first renders full screen, and then when the scroll bar loads, the page tries to shrink, because the scrollbar tries to occupy the space, and hence you can see the menu shifting.

I have attached a video link, please watch it in full-screen : http://screencast.com/t/h8nw8XvMyIG

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you still need any further assistance. Have a nice day.
