Plugin auto update disabled on multisite install

The Jetpack support tells me that I have to check my wordpress settings. I run a multisite with the defender plugin. I thought to check if its possible that I hardened my wp install to much?

I can not auto update my plugins?

Jetpack tells me to check the following constants also need to be set to false or not defined: DISALLOW_FILE_MODS and AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED. And any plugin that intentionally disables autoupdates must not be active.

This is my Jetpack message:

Autoupdates are not available for your website. Any autoupdates are explicitly disabled by a site administrator.

    Hi Renaat,

Hope you are doing good today.

Jetpack tells me to check the following constants also need to be set to false or not defined: DISALLOW_FILE_MODS and AUTOMATIC_UPDATER_DISABLED. And any plugin that intentionally disables autoupdates must not be active.

If I’m not mistaken, Defender doesn’t disable any plugin updates. I checked my system running Defender, and I was able to update, and install plugins in my system.

Is the issue only related to plugin update? I don’t see any plugins that needs to be updated in your system. I did try to install a plugin, and it worked fine. Since I don’t see you mention about performing a plugin conflict test, could you please run a quick plugin/theme conflict test as illustrated in getting support manual (flowchart), and rule out whether any plugin is causing this issue.

Please let us know how that goes, have a nice day.

    Kind Regards,

Nope, DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT is not same as DISALLOW_FILE_MOD. DISALLOW_FILE_EDIT is just to restrict the plugin and theme files to be edited from wordress editor where DISALLOW_FILE_MOD is to restrict automatic update and install plugins etc.

Would you please double check if you really don’t have defined DISALLOW_FILE_MOD in wp-config.php?

If not, then as Nithin said, would you please try a plugin conflict test?

In addition, are you in managed hosting or shared hosting? In some managed hosting, the host disables auto updated so you may check with them too.

    Have a good day!

    Cheers
