Automate on The Hub Can't Update Certain Plugins

Opening a new ticket in accordance to this comment on a different thread:

The issue is that the Automate feature on the Hub seems to have issues updating certain plugins, and those plugins tend to be premium plugins like Gravity Forms, Events Calendar Add-ons, WPML, etc.

On my site, Gravity Forms is the main plugin that has consistently hard time updating. Right now it doesn't have an update pending since I updated it manually last time, but I would be happy to roll back to the previous version of Gravity Forms to help resolve the issue – just give me the word.

I gave access to support for my multisite and just now extended it for 3 more days since it was about to expire.

Let me know if you need anything else from me and I'll be happy to provide it!

    Hi Spencer Cloud,

    Thank you for your question.

Sorry to hear that you're having an issue with UPTIME. Before start investigation, could you please check and confirm me if Automate has enabled for all of your plugins or for few? Go Dashboard > WPMU DEV > Overview > GO TO MY HUB > UPTIME > Configuration. Check the screenshot for better understanding.

Hey, not sure why you were saying there are issues with UPTIME, but from the screenshots I can see that you meant Automate.

It's currently set to "Auto update all plugins and themes", but it's frustrating when these errors happen, because it constantly undoes this setting.

    Hi Spencer Cloud,

    Thank you for replying back.

Sorry for the misunderstanding and you're correct. I meant Automate but a mistake. However, I can see last Automate initialization was on Log time: 2018-12-11 02:18:27 and everything is fine there. So, please keep eyes open over the Automate log and see if anything happen again. Do let us know if it fails to update. We'll do further investigation. You can check Automate activity log of your site on the HUB. Check screenshot.

    Hi Spencer Cloud,

Thank you for replying back. Hope you're doing well today.

After inspecting log on your site for Automate, I can see Automate failed to update Social Warfare plugin due to a 301 error. That means the requested URL got changed (usually https to http) and Automate unable to track the URL while trying to update the plugin. The problem isn't related to Automate. Automate is working fine for you. Check the screenshot

Visit this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_301 to know more about 301 error.

I would suggest you check your site DB, site settings and make sure all URLs should be https. You can find some useful plugin on https://wordpress.org/plugins to force to https
