[Hosting] Can’t ping server after changing SSH password

I just changed the SSH password on this hosted site, and the FTP and SSH connectivity immediately terminated. I can’t ping the server anymore. HTTP is up. Please advice.

    Hello Tony,

    I’m sorry for the inconvenience.

Right now pings are not working, our sysadmins are checking why it is happening (it’s something that was discovered recently).

I tried to replicate this problem with SSH and password change, but I could not – I was connected to ssh and after changing password session was not terminated. I disconnected and connected again with a new password without any problem.

I can see that it’s not possible to connect to your ssh user, but just to be sure, can you change the password again and see if after that you will be able to connect?

I also asked our sysadmins to take a look on your site to see if they can find anything there regarding this issue.

    kind regards,

    Kasia

Thank you for taking time on this Kasia Swiderska ! This is related to this other issue and I’ve been able to solve the mystery.

I use KeePass to auto-type my passwords (awesome FOSS, highly recommended for everyone). For some reason I did not have my SSH password in the autotype so it used null. On three failed entries the server blocked my IP, but I didn’t know that. So I changed my password (then set it in KeePass) and still couldn’t get in. I pinged and got no response. Co-incidentally the servers aren’t accepting pings anyway but that’s unrelated, I thought this was a symptom of a problem.

But the issue is not related to the password change. This was a defined IP lockout for authentication failure. So we’re all good here. Flagging this as Resolved. Thanks!!
