Please help me with migrating my website to your hosting.

    Hi Andrew,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. The source site with FTP shared seems to have a bandwidth limitation around 500kbs, hence the migration process is slow via FTP, and only progressed around 2.5GB out of 15 GB.

Do you have access to cPanel or SSH? If yes, the migration would be much faster. We would also like to have access to the Database side.

Could you please share either any of the above logins along with PHPmyAdmin login(database access), so that we could look at faster ways. You can send credentials by using our secure contact form: https://wpmudev.com/contact/#i-have-a-different-question

    – To Mark to my attention, the subject line should contain only: ATTN: Nithin Ramdas

    -cPanel username and password

    OR

    -SSH host, username, password

    -PHPMyAdmin Login for Database

    -login URL

-link back to this thread for reference

    -any other relevant URLs

Please do follow up on the ticket once you have sent the above credentials.

    Kind Regards,

    Nithin

    Hi Nithin,

I have sent the login details for the Control Panel – the current host does not use cPanel but a custom interface.

Below are some instructions that may be helpful to find your way around if need be:

    – File manger: https://xneelo.co.za/help-centre/website/file-manager/

    – phpmyadmin: https://xneelo.co.za/help-centre/website/managing-website/mysql/import-phpmyadmin/

Please let me know if you need anything else and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

I’m hoping to have this up on the new server by the weekend so I can work on it.

    Thanks again,

    A

    Hi,

I noticed that the site at the original domain https://www.andyandszerdi.com/ resolves to the default WordPress install page.

The files all appear to still be on that server so do you know what may have caused this?

I also see that the site has been migrated to the new server, although it looks like a few things may not be complete as yet.

Could you give me an update on that migration as well as the issue on the old server (assuming that this has something to do with you guys).

    Thank you,

    Andy

    Update on the above:

It appears there are “no database tables found” on the old server.

Please ensure that the database is reinstated immediately. There is no reason those database tables should have been dropped!

Please get back to me asap as we receive traffic and enquiries through that site daily.

Any response to this? It’s very urgent and now “live chat” support staff are not available.

I just want to know why the database tables on the source site were dropped? There is never any reason for this to happen in a migration.

Has this migration been assigned to a junior dev? Please put someone with experience onto this and please assist me in getting it resolved as soon as possible.

I can’t have a site down for this long.

    Hi Andrew,

Sorry about the delay in your request for migration your site to our hosting.

I have the answers to your question. Let me explain one by one:

I noticed that the site at the original domain https://www.andyandszerdi.com/ resolves to the default WordPress install page.

In the moment I’m validating this, I see you put your site in a maintenance mode, also there should be any logic reason for you site resolving to default WordPress since we just transfer your files to our hosting.

It appears there are "no database tables found" on the old server.

After validate this, you are right, there’s not tables in the database but Again there’s not logic reason since we just copy those files and don’t modify any of your old site’s file. In any case and I as I said, we just transfer files including your database so I tried reinstated this tables from the backup I have copied to your new hosting but PhpmyAdmin also have another limitation in ExecTimeLimit that caused Script timeout passed error(see picture attached) due your sql file is large than 50MB, it would be possible to restore using mysql from cli but no access was given at the moment.

I also see that the site has been migrated to the new server, although it looks like a few things may not be complete as yet.

This is expected and that’s the reason I haven’t update you in this forum. As I standard procedure, we inform about your status via our Support staff, so if you ask about your status they respond to you about it. Once the migration is fully completed, hosting team respond via this channel.

The main reason your site have’t been fully migrating is because your old site is limiting the transfer, so it’s been slow. Also I didn’t see in your dashboard of your previous hosting how much storage you currently have there. That would be useful to know because we could give you an estimated about when your site will be fully migrated.

The only viable option is still ftp, there’s not ssh access and compression in the File Manager doesn’t work. I only was able to export your database via phpMyAdmin and files are still transferring via ftp.

So far, 19GB have been transferred, it’s not completed yet and I’m not sure when this is will be done but I assume 90% of your files have been migrated.

Anyhow, since I was able to take your sql from your old site, I was able to migrate your site even with still some files missing that slowly are being transferred.

I’ll inform you when your files are completely moved to your new hosting.

Any concern you have please let me know.

    Regards,

    Jesus

    Hi Andrew

Just less than an hour since my last comment I can now say we’ve finally finished migrating your website over to your new hosting environment. Feel free to login with your wp-admin credentials to check out if everything is fine.

    Notes regarding the websites:

Some themes & plugins might need reconfiguration since the URL has temporarily changed (i.e. make sure to flush caches and reconfigure any premium plugin that might be bound to a domain)

I’ve kept a manual backup as well after the site was migrated and you’ll find it under your Backups tab with a comment “Migration” as an easy revert point if needed.

I also kept the sql file of your previously site in case you need it. You are free either keep it there or remove it

You can follow this easy guide when you are ready to add your Primary domain to your environments https://wpmudev.com/docs/hosting/dns-and-domain-management/ .

Tell me if you need any further help with this!

    Regards,

    Jesus

Thank you for the detailed reply Jesus.

The site is meant to be roughly 15GB but I see that there is possibly a backup or something that is causing it to be approximately 21GB.

If 19GB has already copied then we are at least close. I’m not sure why SSH is not working.

Regarding the source site missing the database I have contacted that hosting provider to find out if something could have happened on their side.

    Thank you,

    Andy

I have cleared the cache and gone through each section of the site, and tested the contact forms. All appears to be working well.

I will point the domain to the new server from CloudFlare.

What would you recommend is the best method to update the database with the new URL?

I usually use a script but if you have a better method (ie: one of the existing WPMUDEV plugins) I’d be happy to use that.

    Thanks,

    A
