[Hosting] High load average

Please investigate why the CPU load is high and load average is more than average.

    Hi Kris

I have had to upgrade the hosting package whilst this is looked at as the site was constantly going down.. I have, since then, noticed that the site is running a Woocommerce product import every 15 minutes using this plugin: https://www.webtoffee.com/product/product-import-export-woocommerce/

It turns out that, by default, importing products into Woocommerce triggers thumbnail regeneration, handled by Woocommerce itself. I suspect that this was causing the issue, particularly as there are 11,500 images in the media library and 2,620 products.

I then discovered an option in the import extension to “disable automatic thumbnail regeneration” so I have set that now :0)

My guess is that the site would now be ok on the Silver hosting plan but I’ll leave it on Gold for a few days and keep an eye on it.

If you guys spot anything else in the error logs etc that you feel have contributed to the high load, please let me know. As mentioned before, the weird thing is that this site was running fine on another host with the same resource (2cpu, 2gb ram). It had the same extensions and settings etc – only difference was the host itself (old host was Apache, not Nginx). I can’t help wondering if there are some host config changes that could help prevent this kind of issue?!

    Hi Martin

I was monitoring your site and made some performance test.

There was expired transients that I removed, also clean cache, restart mysql/php services and now memory down from 6gb to less than 3gb in 15 min I kept monitoring.

Let me know if you experiment any other performance issue so we can take a look.

    Regards,
    Jesus
