Smush Pro can’t smush a few images.

In a few images, I am getting the following error when trying to smush

– Error posting to API: cURL error 56: SSL read: error:00000000:lib(0):func(0):reason(0), errno 110
– Couldn’t process image due to bad headers. Try re-saving the image in an image editor, then upload it again.

If I re-upload them it works fine but it should work straight away, isn’t it, please check and help.

    Hey Alauddin ,
Hope you are having a Good day

Smush can only compress images with metadata, so if an image does not have that it will not be able to do that & hence show the above error.

So re-uploading that image by resaving it through an image editor can solve this issue as you already did that.

This often happens, when images are imported with tools that don’t use WordPress functionality to upload media or file was uploaded without using Media library i.e FTP or some custom uploader plugin/theme.

So this is expected behavior by Smush to show that error for an image with no metadata & also skip those images in Bulk Smush.

    I hope this helps.

Feel free to reach out to us for any further queries

    Kind Regards,

I have started getting the same problem. My image procesing and upload process has not changed over 5 years and 30+ sites yet this has now started – I think possibly a bug as all I do is refresh the smush page and then re-smush and it fixes some but not all of the images – I did not re-save or upload any images just reproecessed the existing ones that failed.

I have the same issue at the moment. It keeps saying I have over 7000 images that need smushing. I’m using the batch processor and it does like maybe 20-30 at a time. If I manually do it in the media library is says “Couldn’t process image due to bad headers. Try re-saving the image in an image editor, then upload it again.”

All images have just been dragged and dropped onto WP media library since I started 7 years ago. There’s no way I’m re-uploading 7000 files. It has to be a bug?

I’m also seeing this error, only for some images. There’s a batch of images that were created and saved by the same program, uploaded at the same time in bulk, but some of them are smushing and some are giving the error. I’m using the FileBird plugin – perhaps that’s the issue?
