Being asked to whitelist an IP address

I went to my wpmudev dashboard and saw security alerts for 2 of my wordpress sites. It then told me I should whitelist a particular IP address to allow remote updates. I’m not sure what this means. Do you want me to whitelist the IP address on my desktop computer to allow updates on my desktop computer? Or do you need me to whitelist as an admin on my wordpress site? If you need me to whitelist on my wordpress site how do I do this?

    Hello Wilson

I hope you’re well today and thank you for your question!

The message means that there’s some sort of a firewall (or similar security tool) that is blocking communication with these IPs. In most cases this is a server-side issue so to get it done you’d want to get in touch with your host tech support and ask them if they could white-list those IPs for you or tell you how you could do this by yourself in the host management panel.

Additionally, are you using any additional security plugins on site such as e.g. iThemes Security, WordFence or similar and/or are you using Sucuri service to secure the site?

    Let me know please.

    Best regards,

    Adam
