Combination of prosites and directory and the right order of installation

Hi,

I wish to create my niche website with your templates and plugins.

Here is what I have in mind, please advise me what template and plugin should I use:

1. A blog network, like edublogs where each profile is searchable and arranged in a directory type (many businesses will like to submit their info to the directory and I will ask them to run a blog in exchange).

2. Buddypress social functionalities

3. Other capabilities such as events, forums, facebook sign in etc.

What I need to know is what are the main templates I need to install, in order to have the “blog network” and the directory abilities. What order should I install them? Can I later add more capabilities such as events, forums etc,

I also need to know if I need to preinstall wordpress MU or buddypress (even before the templates), or it comes all included? If I need any preinstall, in what order?

Thanks

Ofer

    Hey there.

What I need to know is what are the main templates I need to install, in order to have the “blog network” and the directory abilities. What order should I install them? Can I later add more capabilities such as events, forums etc,

Templates is really about taste and what you want on there.

Some people prefer a uniformed look and create a series of themes or child themes to match. Others don’t mind so much and provide a range of different options.

If you’re offer blogs/sites then I would start by making the multisite. Then add the directory.

Anything you’re new too, take your time to learn. So if you’re new to Directory, then only install that first, play with it and get use to it before installing another plugin.

Otherwise you might get in a muddle with tons of options to decide on.

It shouldn’t overly matter in what order you install the plugins in, just remember to get familiar with each of them first, understand how they work and any limitations so you know what to expect and what the outcome would be.

You could add Events, Forums, etc later as you wish. Role them out in stages should you want that. In fact doing so could give each section time to build up rather than having a huge site with little content spread out.

Concentrate on one at a time and build it from there.

Hope this helps, if you have further questions then please let me know.

    Take care.
