Good luck for setting up by Monday…will never happen but then never say never…

In my opinion this is not the best directory plugin..I was excited when I first heard it coming out…but have disappointed with it…

If you have no more money to spend..then definitely try it…just keep experimenting..read other posts about it in the forum.

Good luck I hope I’m wrong and you setup by Monday.

hey foodfriendfinder – what is the best directory plugin for doing a very large business directory? I want to keep[ the users on front end 100% of the time and want different types of ads based on role…and of course total BP integration.

    Thanks!

    Greetings abiola,

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the email, you have the address 110% above though I adjusted the way you wrote it because it allowed the spam bots to pick it up that way.

However, you had the address absolutely right and I have to this moment been receiving emails at that address.

    Please advise.

    Cheers, Joe

If you are in that much of a rush then this maybe the way to go.

There is one suggestion but its 99$ supports multisite and therefore the users can use their login from the network, you may have to manually adjust their role. But not integrated with buddypress.

Its a WP directory theme. But is a complete self contained Directory and Theme all in one.

But hopefully the new beta will sort you out.

    Greetings tom.eagles,

You would not believe the amount of people who are not happy having to use the theme that comes with our Directory plugin insisting on using there own which for the most part work out using short codes.

But as we both know it is certainly not a Buddy Press buddy probably because they are both using common post types or something.

    @aencu

Thats the problem, the majority want something that works out of the box, without realising that many of the high end theme use highly customised code to get them to look so nice, which means unfortunately either a) Customisation to the theme needed.

b)customisation to the plugin is needed or simple css changes.

When someone has a complex list of requirements then getting a one does all solution means a customised solution or a bespoke software solution designed from the ground up. Both require financial investment.

The last one i did cost the client in excess of 3,000 euros with a maintenance and support contract of around 200 euros a month. And i havent had a single complaint from them. I kept the support price low as so far they have come back again and again for more and more addons.

Moral of the story is this a WP directory now matter how well designed will not compete against the big boys out there, but then again there is a difference in price.

as you have so often rightly pointed out most of the time anything is possible with the right skill set, but then we get into the law of diminishing returns. WP wasnt designed to do a lot of the things people want so we bolt on pieces to do it,but just because they can be added on doesnt mean that we can expect perfect results without some work on it.

Maybe the likes of wordpress, joomla etc have lead people to think site development is only a point and click process now. But after some 20+ years in the business most of us realise that you also need to know at least the basics of css, some php and html and know how wp works. just my 0,2c

WPMUdev’s Directory in my opinion does not compare to other WP directories.

If it did I would use it.

I’m not sure I would say WP is the fault or that a good Directory is not possible.

yes integrating with BP out of the box might not be easy.

No one can compete with the big boys…it’s like trying to setup a social networking site and compete with Facebook.

But there are many niches that can be explored and in the end a great looking website might look great……

It’s still All About the Content.

    Greetings @tom.eagles,

Thank you for the fantastic post and telling it like it truly is.

I am a person that thrives on the truth, shuns the BS (no wonder I do not like Government? liars and parasites), and takes the time to wade through BS to get to the truth – I commend you for your shining through the murk and presenting a solid truthful account of the real situation especially relating to themes and bolting on the add ons to WordPress.

I could not have said it better myself!

    Greetings @abiola,

I have indeed uploaded the Directory plugin and the Directory theme to your site.

You shoud now go in and activate the Directory plugin and switch your theme to the Directory theme. I would have done it but the password I have does not let me into the WordPress installation.

After activating the two items above you are ready to configure your Directory as needed.

    Cheers, Joe
