Daily Theme featured posts from other blogs?

Is it possible to feature posts from other blogs?

I’d also like to feature the most recent video from a video blog automatically. If that’s not possible, maybe check the “front page” category for each new video and uncheck it on the previous post. If that’s not an option, could there at least be a LINK to the video blog?

My current front page hasn’t changed in MONTHS because I don’t have time to write posts about posts. I would like to be able to EASILY feature the best of the blogs on the front page.

Thanks,

Christine

The answer is it depends. Friendly reminder that a link is always helpful so we can see what’s currently occurring.

If you’re just looking at a single blog that you;re pulling the latest post from, I’d just use fetch_feed and set it to grab a single post from that specific blog.

If you;re looking at something sitewide, it depends on what you;re currently using to compile your posts form your blogs. Are you using something currently?

Here’s one site that needs to be completely redone:

http://highdesertpermaculture.org/ and there are multiple blogs, although they’re still missing, just moving to this new domain.

I thought I’d have a few featured blogs with mostly stale info about the local co-op/buying club, GM foods, etc. on the bottom, but I’d like to have some frequently changing new content at the top.

It would be great to have the slideshow with content from SITEWIDE blogs. There’s no way to manually add the URL to the featured post in the slideshow? Or anywhere else on the front page?

And if I repost what I want featured in the main blog, I have to reserve that blog exclusively for the slideshow and how do I keep the posts from showing up twice in search results?

I am using sitewide recent posts and comments at another site and plan on using them here too, but they look really dull, no pics.

And I wish there were links to live sites using certain themes, that would make it a lot easier to get an idea of what CAN be done. So many features and I’m still trying to wrap my head around what goes where.

    Hiya Christine,

To bring in posts from across the network, you’ll want to take a look at our Post Indexer and related plugins:

    https://wpmudev.com/project/post-indexer

There’s several ways to pull them in on the front page. We have a widget that can help pull them in on any sidebar, or you can write a query of the new table created by post indexer to display whatever ya like.

The article you’re referring to also mentions site-wide tags. This is another good way to do it. We have a plugin here that duplicates the functionality of the one mentioned in the article:

    https://wpmudev.com/project/global-site-tags

    Hope this helps!

    thanks!

Thanks, I was just in the process of installing post indexer when a reader of another site reported that the pages were totally black.

Hadn’t made changes to the theme in months and last night decided to install the Daily Theme since I’m at least somewhat familiar with it and the pages loaded fine for me.

Now another reader reported that he can’t make a donation because he only sees the header at http://liarsandcheats.info/support/

I just went through disabling all the plugins and then testing one by one and found that it’s the Membership plugin. I had just recently uploaded it, but have not done anything but activation. Did see your extensive instructions and just haven’t had time to read it all.

So APPARENTLY the membership plugin does “something” to the themes and I don’t know if that’s because I have not set it up. The strangest thing is that it always worked for me in Firefox and one other browser, only one of my browsers got the crippled pages (header only). If my roommate wasn’t testing for me, I’d go insane.

After I make the new theme somewhat presentable, I’d really like to set up the membership plugin and I WILL read the instruction. Just would like to know whether your are aware of this error and whether setting up membership properly will fix it.

    Thanks,

    Christine

“Your attempt to submit this post has failed.”

    I’m getting very discouraged.

I just did the automatic update and lost all the header customizations including the logo.

I can’t find the header text size and cannot at all figure out where the css is, why there are so many css files and why there’s nothing in the child css.

Are there some instructions somewhere? Why did I lose everything?

Sorry you are unhappy Christine but I think the issue is you seem to not just have one issue or relating to the theme now. I am trying to catch up on them here to get on track for you. However can you please if it’s not related to the initial query start a new post so we can get the right person to see it.

I see you are saying on update you had things go missing – are you using the parent and child theme structure?

I activated the child theme and then had customized the header from the admin panel. Everything defaulted back to the initial stuff.

I do remember eventually fixing the font size by editing a parent css and thinking that I’d lose that, but I just can’t figure out how to use that child theme. There’s nothing in the css, it’s like starting from scratch.

I realize that it’s clearly MY fault that I don’t know everything, but I’d sure like to know how to at least not lose my logo every time I update.
