Domain Mapping not working, addon domain set

I am at a lost and would require help ASAP. I would also like some information on a few things and some clarifications:

Added the domain mapping plugin to my fresh multisite installation, added the wp-config info, moved the sunrise.php to the proper location. Since I own the domain(s) I want to map, I created addon domains that point to the root of my multisite. Nothing works. The domain is “unavailable” (or health = invalid) as per the error prompt when I try to map it. I don’t get it. What am I missing?

I tried just forwarding one of the domain I own to the main multisite domain and then looked to see if ti could be mapped (be valid) and it was. Now that doesn’t solve my issue since it just goes to the primary domain (and doesn’t actually map to the child sites), but shows that the addon domain scenario is not being picked up by the plugin it seems.

Anyways, I’ve mapped sueccesfully using the addon domains before (in a previous WordPress install) and it worked fine, the difference is that the multisite was not the primary domain (root of “public_html” but another installation withing the public_html folder _/public_folder/site2.com/). Now I’ve read on the internet that addon domain won’t work if the multisite is the root… pls tell me that’s not the case since your documentation makes zero references to this.

2. how does one go about creating a CNAME for a sub-directory install? Your guide doesn’t explain it.

My hosting is at goddady if that matters.

    Hi NP,

Hope you are doing good today

First of all, let me clear that you can map the domains on a multisite network installed on root folder (public_html) so that is not the issue.

The health status invalid means that the domain is not fully propagated yet. Also it could be a false alarm due to some server does not report correctly.

That said, if you are sure that your domain(s) are fully propagated and configured than you can disable this check from Network Dashboard -> Settings -> Domain Mapping -> Mapping Options -> Verify domain’s DNS settings.

Regarding your second question. I can see that you can only configure the CNAME for subdomains only.

Here is a discussion for this issue that should be of some help:

Take care and have a nice day

    Kind Regards,

I’ve been waiting for 3 days now, how long does it take? In the past, I’ve done this within a few hours.

” I can see that you can only configure the CNAME for subdomains only.” – Unless I missed it. Guys seriously, you are paid to have a “premium” service as such you should REALLY look into cleaning up your documentation as to how to use the plugin by adding all the possible issues or at least the most common scenarios that people might encounter for troubleshooting. If I have to go on WordPress forums to get my answers and waste hours then WHY am I paying you guys exactly? I”m frustrated so apologies for coming off a bit terse, but you brand yourself as a premium service with yearly fees yet make not much effort into having your “documentation” complete or even updated regularly. This is kind of ridiculous.

    Hi NP,

Hope you are doing good today

I am sorry for inconvenience that may cause this issue and understand the frustration. I will flag the usage writer to add a note or something like that to make this more clear.

What is the domain name of your website that you want to map ? Please post that here so I can check its DNS records to see whether its propagated or not. You can check yourself here as well:

    https://www.whatsmydns.net

Please also include what domain you want to map with what subsite ?

Also, if you could grant support staff access so I can take a closer look. You can grant access from WPMU DEV -> Support -> Support Access -> Grant Access or see this manual.

Look forward towards your response

    Best Regards,

    Sajid
