How to make sure membership plugin doesn't restrict access until I get it set up?

Ok, I’ve set up Membership once before, but it’s been awhile. I had installed it about a month ago and I must have clicked on the enable link to cause this, but I just want to make sure before I start setting it up so that our current visitors are not upset about not being able to reach our content. So if I Understand correctly, to make sure visitors can still access content, I can activate the plugin and make sure NOT to click the enable link until everything is set up properly. Right?

Thanks!

    Hey there,

    You are absolutely right.

Just activate and not enable it. For testing you can use the View as option on the admin bar and once you are all set, enable the protection and you are good to go

I hope that helps. Please feel free to ask if you have more questions on the same.

I do notice though that when I log out of admin, even though I haven’t enabled it, the site including the home page says the page is protected. I did figure out that by deactivating the plugin then reactivating it, that my settings are saved, so I an work late night on it without much worry about alot of traffic till I can get the whole thing set up.

    Hey there,

That might be the caching which is causing it as when the protection is disabled, it would not protect the site.

So you should try with server and system cache deleted.

However, as you said that the traffic is not high, you can do that in a maintenance mode too
