Hummingbird – not working properly

Hello, when I activate hummingbird, it immediately breaks the website (it shows some kind of a blue robot).

When I deactivate it, it’s working again perfectly.

Could you have a look at this?

Feel free to activate/deactivate it, it’s not a live website.

Thank you for your help

    Hello Tomáš,

I hope you’re well today and thank you for your question!

I checked your site and I think it’s now working with Hummingbird turned on. The issue here are the “Minification” settings. Let me first explain that a bit

The “minification” process is a way to “compress” JavaScript and CSS files so they load faster. This also involves combining multiple files into single files and – optionally – moving them between WordPress header/footer. This can be very beneficial in terms of site’s loading time but can also lead to some unexpected issues – such as in this case.

That said, please go to your dashboard’s “Hummingbird -> Minification” page and take a look at current settings. You’ll notice that for some of the files the toggles in “Minify” and “Combine” columns are gray (switched off). This means that these particular files are not not minified and not combined into other files.

Please then check your site and make sure that everything is working fine. You may then want to try to “tweak” this Minification settings a bit more. To do this you will want to toggle “Minify” button for each of the file separately each time checking if the site breaks (and “switch it off” in case it does) and then repeat the same for “Combine” column.

This may be a time consuming task but this “trial and error” process is a result of the way the minification works. However, if you site is running fine now, you may as well leave this configuration “as is”.

    I hope that helps!

    Best regards,

    Adam
