I have a grid of products on our homepage that when selected off the grid, does not retain the variation when adding to the cart.

It’s a skeleton site so far while we test. If the product is selected out of the catalog and the variations are selected…ie. color and size, it adds to the cart correctly.
If, from the homepage grid, you select the variation like color and then choose size, the color variation gets reset and vice versa. If you add the product to the cart, it increments the number of items in the cart but does not show the actual product in the cart.
Any help is appreciated.
