Moving my Website from SiteGround Hosting to Yours

Okay, this is the situation that I seemed to have gotten myself into. Our main website is currently being hosted on SiteGround and it seems to be acting a little strange at times and it has gone offline a few times. This is a membership website and we have people joining all of the time and I am not sure how to bring the site over here without possibly missing a sign up.

Do I just need to shut down the sign up for a day or two while it moves over? Also, this is a very big site and it seems that it has duplicated itself within the directory that I thought I was running from. I am very confused on what is going on with this website.

One more question, we are wanting to totally redo this website, with a different membership plugin. Am I able to do this is the "staging" area and does this count towards the total disk space I have in my account?

And finally, can you help me move this site? I can give you access to the SiteGround information so you can try to figure out what is going on. And let me know what the charges might be so I can talk to accounting.

Thank you for your time!

Jon

    Hello Jon

You don’t need to turn off the sign up while you move the site. When you start hosting on our platform, you will be given an additional domain URL. So, you can work with that URL. Once the migration is done, then you just need to change your DNS and point to our hosting. Usually the DNS propagation takes place in 10 mins but still you may consider for 6 hours (though people suggest to wait 72 hours but the case is very unlikely). So, when your site has very low number of visitors, in that time you can change the DNS.

One more question, we are wanting to totally redo this website, with a different membership plugin. Am I able to do this is the “staging” area and does this count towards the total disk space I have in my account?

Yes, the staging area is part of your disk space. But when you redo the website on the staging platform, I don’t think you will add too many resources.

And finally, can you help me move this site? I can give you access to the SiteGround information so you can try to figure out what is going on. And let me know what the charges might be so I can talk to accounting.

Yes, we can help with moving. And we don’t charge anything for moving the site. Though, I am not sure if we can spend enough time to find out the issue with the siteground, as this is out of our support scope.

If you want us to migrate the site, please send us your admin login and cPanel login. Once we get that information, we will start migrating.

Hope it helps! Please feel free to ask more questions if you have any.

    Have a nice day!

    Cheers,

Thank you for the quick reply. I am in a holding pattern currently because of a plugin issue on your servers. I have a ticket on that and the ‘staff’ is working on it.

I will let you know if we have a “go” for the move once we solve the plugin issue.

    Thanks again!
