multi-domain – how does it work with domain names

i’m not really sure how multi-domain works. my current host allows six sites to be installed (on my plan). are you saying that with this plugin i can install unlimited amounts of sites under one wordpress install? how does that affect the add-on domains? don’t you have to add those for the redirect to work if the domain is on a different server. it needs to point somewhere.

This plugin will allow your WordPress multisite installation to be able to handle multiple domains.

However, your host still has to allow these domains to be routed to your installation… So If they do, you’ll be fine. I have my doubts though, so my guess is that you’ll be able to host just 6 domains on a single WordPress installation using this plugin.

    I hope that helps!

yes, that helps. I think I may switch to another company and upgrade slightly to get unlimited domains. Then I could really see the benefit of this plugin.

If I’m understanding correctly. I could create all of my customers sites through one installation of WordPress? If that’s the case, and I do switch, how difficult would it be to migrate those other WordPress installations into one multi-domain installation?

@imfastrnu2 the process would be like this:

First, you convert your WordPress installation to multisite: http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network

Instead of the Multi-Domains plugin, I would advise you to use this plugin: https://wpmudev.com/project/domain-mapping/ it’s easier and it will suit your use case a lot better.

Then, you can start migrating your sites from single installations to your WordPress multisite network using this walkthrough: http://codex.wordpress.org/Migrating_Multiple_Blogs_into_WordPress_3.0_Multisite

Once you do that, you can go to each site and assign the domain you wish.

That’s all… now all you have to do is change the DNS recorde of these domains from your domain registar and point them all to your WordPress server.

    I hope that helps!

    Cheers,

    Ari.
