Multiple Domains to a single SubSite

Hi,
I am in the process of migrating our sites to a Multi-site installation (hosted with you). One of our clients sites has multiple (10-15) domains, all requiring being pointed at the same site. This is a combinedfeature request and Support request (although I don’t need anything doing immediately – I am just asking the best way to get his done on your hosting).

The domains do not need to remain in the URL bar, just rediected to the “master” domain for the site (a subsite in the multi-site install). I know I could install an additional plugin (not my favourite method). So can I ask your team to edit the nginx entry to set up redirects for the domain to re-point at the master domain?

The feature request would be a control panel for domains added to have that ability a the control panel level (ie a redirect domain x to domain y).

Kind regards

Mark

    Hi Mark

    I hope you’re well today!

If you don’t really need these domains to “stay in address bar” you should be able to simply use DNS for that at any registrar that you’re using.

You would just want that site of your customer to be up and running on your multisite and then change DNS for these domains. The simplest way would be to use URL record in DNS if your registrar allows it – it just does a regular 301 redirect to target host (which, in this case, would be the original address of the sub-site).

If it’s not supported, you could also set a CNAME instead – it’s a bit different but should work nevertheless.

But if it’s not possible or doesn’t work for you, let me know, and I’ll ask our hosting team if they could add redirects directly to your site’s nginx.

    Best regards,
    Adam
