Password not saving to user_pass field in wp_user table after registration

I just discovered an issue when trying to register a new site. I go all the way through the registration process, activate account and try to enter username and password but it is always saying incorrect. I looked in the wp_users table and for some reason the user_pass field is blank. This just started happening and I can’t think of anything new that would have affected this. I was using register plus redux where the user could enter their own password and thought this might be the problem so I disabled it and tried the regular wordpress registration where it creates one for you. I still get the email to activate and what the username and password is but I still have the same issue and the field in the table is still blank. Not sure why this is happening. Has anyone else dealt with this and if so, how did you fix it?

Thanks everyone!

Dustin

This is quite interesting. Go into the table and make a user by hand, make sure you said the password to MD5 encryption. Try to login then with it. Your site may be failing to access part of the database. Have you changed the prefixes recently with a security plugin?

@Brashell- I haven’t changed anything that I know of. I will try to manually do the database and see how it works.

@Ari- I will send a screenshot a little later today when I get back home.

This is a strange one for sure. Thanks for the help!!

@James I would like to send you a couple premium plugins I own, They check your database and core files for issues and repair them. So it should be able to find what ever is wrong if it isn’t coming from a plugin. I need your email though as I can’t post it here. I will just pretend your a client.

The core scanner hasn’t fixed the issue yet…I am still looking into this to find out what is going on. I’m going to try another theme to see if something in the theme might be conflicting so we will see. Thanks

I believe I have found the problem (not real thrilled about it). Evidently, the theme I am using (Genesis Framework, Corporate Child Theme) is not compatible with the newest version of WP because I switched the them to the twenty-twelve theme and registered a user and it worked just fine. That is frustrating because I was almost completed with the site and now I’m going to have to basically move everything over to a new theme and try to get the look I need with something different. I think I will also let the author of the theme know to make him aware. Thanks everyone for your help and especially @Brashell, you were a great help!

@jayhawkerd this is very interesting, never seen a theme do this before. Where did you buy the theme at? Have you reported the problem to the developer of the theme? If you but it from theme forest or another marketplace I suggest you report it to the developer. If the developer is no help you are entitled to a refund at theme forest and as well as mojo themes. Make sure you explain the theme is broken and that due to this you can’t register a user properly and you would like a refund. Envato will just give you credits towards a new purchase and Theme Mojo I am not sure. Envato you can get a refund here: http://support.envato.com/index.php?/Tickets/Submit Hope this is of some help! Thanks for the points as well, much appreciated. – Brashell

The theme is from Studiopress. We are contacting them to let them know the situation and I’m sure they will get it fixed pretty quickly. We’ve never had an issue with them before. I might delete it and reinstall it before I contact them just to make sure it’s a clean install and that nothing got put into the coding by mistake but I don’t think I ever touched any of those pages. Studiopress is pretty good so I’m sure they will take care of it. Thanks for the additional link as well. I will take a look at it tomorrow.
