[SmartCrawl Pro] Class 'WP_Filesystem_Direct' not found

When I try to view sitemap.xml I get a 500 Internal Server error, and the following error shows up in my hosting platform’s dashboard:

Uncaught Error: Class ‘WP_Filesystem_Direct’ not found in /wp-content/plugins/wpmu-dev-seo/includes/core/core.php:935

Any thoughts?

An additional note. This site is hosted on Pantheon and the file system is fairly locked down, so perhaps that is why. Does SmartCrawl try to write out the sitemap as an actual file vs generating dynamically?

I also submitted a ticket to pantheon to ask if they block this function in the live environment. It seems to work normally on dev environment.

I had the same problem on my Dev environment too, but, I know there are some differences between pantheon live and dev environment.

However, if any update comes from pantheon side, please, update the ticket, and I can forward too to our developers.

That is interesting, I can view the sitemap fine on my dev environment but get the 500 error on live.

Not sure if this matters… but I have basic authentication on all three environments because this site is not ready to launch yet.

I had a double check on my dev environments.

I was having the problem on my dev environments because I was using the git instead SFTP, switched to SFTP and now I’m able to see the sitemap on the DEV site.

We had some time ago another report similar for our Forminator Plugin, where it wasn’t able to upload the attached file on pantheon test and live site, their environment has some differences and specificity.

Do you know where it’s trying to write the file?

It’s odd because since it works on dev, I would expect to have the file pop up as ready to commit in the pantheon interface. The fact that it does not, would imply it’s written into the files directory which isn’t version controlled, and should be writable on live. However, it’s possible that particular function is not allowed…

I heard back from Pantheon, but nothing particularly helpful. They initially claimed it’s because only the /uploads folder is writable. In response I pointed out that the line causing the error was just instantiating the class…

Yes, they have some differences in their storage system, this is a well know from Pantheon. However, I don’t see how it could affect that class.

Once I got an update from the development team, I will update the thread too.

I got back some more info from Pantheon. At a basic level it sounds like it’s because of this code they add. So, it’s possible the plugin is trying to write to an allowed location but using a method that is disabled.

One particularly helpful Pantheon support member referenced this post on WPMU and suggesting trying what is suggested there.

One more update. I wanted to let you know that adding the following line to wp-config.php fixed the problem

define('FS_METHOD', 'direct');

Hummingbird writes files without this being necessary, so it might be smart to modify smartcrawl to use different methods, but at least there is a fix for now.

If I notice any other related issues I will let you know.
