[SmartCrawl Pro] Permalink Manager

2

Hi Guys,

Having the Redirect Manager is a grate feature regarding SEO: so much easier to control your content and redirect and maintain old content to new pages.

However, when in comes to link structure WordPress sucks big time: most of devs are not SEO wise and they pull all kind of additional templates and slugs that hurt SEO.

I was wondering if is possible to request a permalink manager is SCP – it will make so much sense to tidy up and redirect / transform bad permalink structure caused by theme devs into nice and friendly uls that SERPS love so much.

Let me know what you think about this idea, and if accepted and makes sense, when you see this as possible to implement.

I did request a fix on the canonical links sent to sitemap.xml > where the pages having the same canonical link where submitted twice or x the number of the same canonical link.

Also asked about the possibility to include png images attached to posts into the sitemap, was insured this is a known issue and it will be fixed but no update was addressing that issue still.

Thank you for your time and all the best to your team.

    Hi Adi Zonga

I hope you’re well today and thank you for your suggestion!

Before I’ll pass it over to our SmartCrawl Team, I’d like to ask you for some additional clarification on this.

WordPress has quite “elastic” support for permalinks configuration and while there might sometimes be “weird” or “seo-unfriendly” structures implemented “out of the box” in some plugins/themes, it’s usually possible to adjust that via the “Settings -> Permalinks”.

But I understand that this may not always be sufficient so could you share some examples?

I mean – some examples of such “bad SEO permalinks” (and where it comes from – e.g. plugin) and how they should be like instead.

If you could also share some suggestions about how would you like such permalink manager to work (mostly in terms what exactly should it be able to do; also “structures” supported) – it would be of great help!

    Best regards,
    Adam

Hey thank you for your quick response on this,

While is impossible to get all of the combinations on themes and plugins, is important to understand the necessity of a permalink rewrite that surpasses the WP permalink structure.

The default permalink structure it regards only classic blog features like category / tag / post and I guess that in 2022 we surpass that and WP is not only a blog CMS.

For once, the introduction of Templates – Elementor for once – it adds the possibility to create substructures that have a way of setting up additional intermediate pages like:

    domain/fancy-template/thepage
    domain/customfooter/thefooter
    domain/custom-structure/thestructure

The need to use additional plugins like permalinkmanager.pro to address the custom post issues is somewhat contra-productive.

We still have two main problems in wp – the removal of category base – kind of weird that we still need to do that with an additional plugin.

And the author permalink that usually is your user like: https://domain/author/youruser/ – big security concern reviling that in the site structure and you need another plugin to address that by generating a random hash – you addressed that by ”prevent user enumeration feature in Defender – but the default link is still there. All you need to get all the users is scan over the /author/ and that’s it, you now need only the password.

I am thinking that this feature will cut your customers the need for additional plugins, making also the wp installation more secure and professional by default and adding value by using your plugins and the fee they come with.

I hope you understand is hard to come with all the possible ???? combinations but I guess my request is self explanatory. Looking at the permalinkmanager.pro explanation of utility, may help too.

On a side note: I will do ANYTHING to get a supercharged WP version that covers all the ”holes” WP has. It looks like this CMS is concentrating on some tools that require now even more editing time then before (The Hindenburg Block Editor), while leaving important things aside, exposing users to waste time and lose data and interest.

Let me know if anything can be clarified on my side, I know this is a new feature request and it means investment from your side, I wish some company like yours step in and just make WP better, I will buy that no question asked.

So, creating custom permalink structures for CPTs and taxonomies with automatic redirects? If SmartCrawl could do that then that would be a major bonus to have that included. And it would indeed save you from having to use a separate (paid) plugin, like permalinkmanager.

    +1000 for this!

    Hi Adi Zonga

All right then! Thank you for extensive feedback and additional information!

I can see how this could be helpful and I have also already forwarded your idea to our SmartCrawl Team. I’d rather not make promises at this point but I can confirm that they are now already made aware of this request and they’ll look into it.

Let’s also keep this ticket open so other Members of our Community could vote for this feature.

    Best regards,
    Adam
