[Smush Pro] I'm having trouble with Smush Pro plugin

Hi,
Some time ago I decided to buy the subscription of Smush Pro plugin and the main reason was that I wanted to optimize speed of my Woocommerce shop on wordpress.
However I have several doubts regarding the way the plugin works and I’m not sure if using your plugin I can bring more problems than benefits.
Here is the list of questions I have and would be grateful if you could somehow help me answering them or solving issues I have:
1. I have more than 25000 products available in the shop, and it means even more (much more) pictures – does Smush Pro when optimizing pictures create a copy of it? If yes it means it will generate another tens of GBs of data – could you please confirm?
2. I also noticed that when I browsing products on my site the pictures representing the products are blurry, but when I go inside the product, and then go back the picture becomes sharp. Why? Is it something caused by Smush Pro?
3. The main slider on the home page works incorrectly when the plugin is turned on – what does it mean – when the pictures change automatically an additional white space is being added below the pictures so it makes the height of the slider twice bigger, so it expands artificially, the picture is on the top and below is white space with the same height – when I turn off the plugin it is ok. Does the plugin do something with the pictures?
4. Do you have any suggestions regarding how I should configure Smush Pro to take the most advanatages of it considering that I have big database of products and pics?

I would be very grateful for your support as really would like to have good plugin helping me in website and pics optimization but Im not sure if I know how to use yours properly.
Many thanks in advance

    Hello Sebastian ,

    1. I have more than 25000 products available in the shop, and it means even more (much more) pictures – does Smush Pro when optimizing pictures create a copy of it? If yes it means it will generate another tens of GBs of data – could you please confirm?

Smush will only create a copy of the image if you choose to. It has the option “Store a copy of my small originals ”
[attachments are only viewable by logged-in members]
when this will be selected, then yes, it will create a copy of images. If not, then it will replace existing images with compressed version and in the end, images will take less storage.

    2. I also noticed that when I browsing products on my site the pictures representing the products are blurry, but when I go inside the product, and then go back the picture becomes sharp. Why? Is it something caused by Smush Pro?

It could be caused by automatic resizing in Smush CDN, however, by checking your site it looks like CDN is not enabled. If you suspect that it is caused by Smush, I suggest disabling the plugin and checking if there is any difference.

That could be caused by LazyLoading feature, it could be conflicting with slider. In cases like this, I suggest disabling LazyLoading and checking if anything changes. LazyLoad is still a beta feature and it can be not compatible with some other JS scripts.
Another reason could be also Smush CDN and automatic resizing option.

My suggestion is to first disable LazyLoading and then Smush CDN to see if any of those caused the issues.

    4. Do you have any suggestions regarding how I should configure Smush Pro to take the most advanatages of it considering that I have big database of products and pics?

Like I mentioned before, not keeping backups will allow you to save storage space. Also, you might consider using just Smush CDN instead of bulk smashing images. CDN already serves compressed images and bulk smush with so many images might take a lot of time. Also, CDN has the option to serve images as WebP. Using Local WebP would not be recommended if you want to save storage (that feature creates WebP copies of images).

You can check this guide on how to use Smush https://wpmudev.com/docs/wpmu-dev-setting-configurations/wpmu-dev-performance-optimization-guide/#optimize-smush-pro-settings-for-google-pagespeed-insights

    kind regards,
