    Hello Mangtum ,

What does multi-pass lossy compression mean in the option Super-Smush? Does it affect the image quality or page load time or quality in any way?

Multi-pass lossy compression reduces file sizes significantly by stripping out as much data as possible without reducing image quality. It will help with page load time, however, in some cases quality of the image can change. So before using it, it is recommended to select the option to backup of images to see if you are happy with the quality.

Also it seems like Automatic compression makes the upload time longer?

Yes, a longer time is expected because Automatic compression works while the image is uploaded – it means that image and it’s thumbnails are sent to our servers and smushed there and send back to your site.

    kind regards,
    Kasia

    Thank you Kasia.
    1) Can you please clarify what option in Smush Pro to enable for taking backup of images. Also how often have you seen people reporting super smush creating loss of image quality.
    2) Automatic Compression – So can we disable this option and periodically bulk smush so users do not experience long wait time during upload? Ours is a multi user site. If yes, is there any other demerit of not doing Automatic Compression besides having to manually bulk smush?
    Thanks

It’s Store a copy of my small originals

That’s a very rare case. It isn’t an option for users that need to have a very high quality of images on their site.

    2) Automatic Compression – So can we disable this option and periodically bulk smush so users do not experience long wait time during upload?

Yes, that is a valid solution.

If yes, is there any other demerit of not doing Automatic Compression besides having to manually bulk smush?

Images will not be optimized instantly. That is the only downside of manual bulk Smush. When you use Smushin during the upload, images are already compressed when user inserts it on site.

    kind regards,
