Smush showing 504 Gateway Timeout error

When I try to bulk smush my images, I’m getting an error message saying “Error posting to API: 504 Gateway Timeout”.

    Hi Robert Barrueco
Before we proceed further I would like to ask you to update Smush Pro to latest version. There were some fixes regelated to API so there is a chance it might solve the problem.

On the other hand I would like to ask you for a permission to do a compatibility test – I will change a theme to default one and later will turn on all the other plugins except Smush. I’ll try to do this as quick as possible as this is a live site. But this is something we have to do because I tested the images that won’t Smush on my hosting and everything went ok so there is chance that some plugin or the theme is in some conflict with Smush.

Hi. Thanks for getting back to me. I’ve updated the latest version of Smush but I am still seeing the same errors.

Please feel free to disable the Theme and plugins while you try to fix this. All I ask is that you dont do it 9 AM to 9 PM Eastern Time. Let me know. Thanks.

    Hi Robert Barrueco

In the end the main was caused by the the fact that some images were kind of big (even 4-5 MB) and that it was set to resize all the sizes (and your theme by default uses about ~20 sizes) so it was a natural thing that some of image got a timeout.

But I analysed your site to see what image sizes do you use and it turns out your theme only uses two of them – the full size and the 650×650. So I set that Smush Pro should just smush those sizes.

As you can see – all the images are ok now.
