Terminating my account with WPMUDev

I sent thins to 'billing' but then realsied it is more technical than billing related.

I think I've been enjoying a discount for a few months as I had previously discussed my very minimal usage of the plugins etc and that period is coming to an end.

Considering the small amount of websites I actually run I simply cannot justify (nor afford) the cost of WPMU Dev and would like to ask what will happen to my websites when I discontinue the subscription?

I don't make a living out of these websites.

I have to pull the plug on all the plugins on all the websites I have them installed on.

Will the websites still work or will they completely fall apart?

    Hello Martin Koss

I’m living pretty much this situation. I have an annual membership from an old offer, and I only have a couple websites that don’t actually generate me enough incoming to mantain this membership. So, much likely (and deeply sadly) I’ll have to get back to a free membership by December.

Despite I’ve been asking in many different opportunities and channels for some kind of “Dyno Membership Plan”, without hosting and costing significantly less. They probably won’t do it so unfortunately downgrading will by my only option. I pretty much don’t use 95% of their “premium” features on their plugins, the only thing I’ll really miss will be 10% of Branda and Defender’s Themes and Plugins scan (I’ll go back to free Wordfence in December).

On the support, since long I only use the Live Chat Support to report bugs (from with I was never given a single Hero Point, as it’s impossible to confirm that I was the first to find, even being sure that I was in many cases, but this is another issue), I consider that I help more than use it.

So, that’s really sad, but they’re pretty much giving up on all customers that “don’t fit” their new business model. But that’s life, customers are actually abandoned in many cases, no mercy.

You can find my original post about my deception and sadness on the link below:

As I’m doing, find the best possible options, and save $ 600/year for something that worths it.

      Hi Fabio.

I asked in the past about a ‘micro user’ package (something like ‘for up to 10 websites’ sort of thing) as I (and many others) have a few websites but pay the same price as an agency with dozens, even hundreds of websites but, alas, that suggestion fell on deaf ears.

This is my second term with WPMUDev as I gave them a shot many years ago but after a year I realised I’d had a very frustrating year reporting things that didn’t work and I ended up finding an alternative plugin somewhere else to do the thing that WPMUDev plugs were supposed to do.

This most recent run with them hasn’t been much better. Can’t fault the dedication of the support people but the actual system of support (the ever disconnecting chat thing) has driven me nuts and, again, I seem to have spent a lot of time asking how to get a plugin to do what I expected it to do rather than just install, set and go…

Like you mentioned, I run a few websites that need very few plugins. I have it running a backup (I think) and it scans for problems (I think). I never get a report emailed to me so I’ve no idea what does actually get scanned or backed up unless I go into my backups and check. I’ve no need for hosting as I prefer to host in my own country and I’ve no use for themes or (probably) 90% of the plugins.

Sometimes the old saying “quality over quantity” needs shouting loudly.

I’m guessing I’m going to be facing a lot of work removing the few plugins that I have and then getting my websites working nicely without them.

      Cheers.

      Martin

    Hello there Martin Koss,

    hope you’re doing well!

As we really can’t handle any accounting/billing issues here in our tech support forums, and as you’ve already sent an email as well, our accounting/billing team will reply back to you via email about this part.

Will the websites still work or will they completely fall apart?

Your websites will still work, no reason to fall apart. You will lose any further updates though, any Pro features of the plugins and any other feature that requires a connection to our API (which is happening via the connection of the WPMUDEV Dashboard plugin).

    https://wpmudev.com/terms-of-service/#api

There’s also a blog post about our Free plugins where you can also find some comparisons between the Pro and the Free versions of our plugins:

    https://wpmudev.com/blog/wpmu-dev-premium-wordpress-plugins-for-free/

    Hope that clarifies things better!

    Thank you,

    Dimitris
