[The Hub] Uptime SMS Alert when site is down

1

Hello WPMUDEV! One of my sites was recently down and I don’t notice it until today got an email saying the site was online after being down for several days.
In my experience, most people will respond to SMS vs. email more quickly, including me, so, it will be great if Uptime could send an SMS alert, that will make it more effective and fast.

Could you please, consider implementing it? Thanks in advance.

    Hi DigitalWires ,

We do see this would be a handy feature and our team is already considering and discussing the possibility of implementing this down the roadmap.

At the moment, I’m afraid there isn’t any exact ETA but can confirm the feature is being looked upon.

In the meanwhile, as a workaround, you can check whether the following would help or not:

    Hi Nithin,

I find that I can send a SMS text message to my Verizon phone number using my 10 digital phone number@vtext.com (1234567890@vtext.com for example) So I have a forward from any emails from uptime-monitor@wpmudev.com to forward to my Verizon account.

As a test, I suspended, via my cPanel, this account: https://dwnsandbox1.com

However, the Uptime Monitor shows that the site is still online:

So apparently, a suspended account will not trigger the Uptime Monitor.

Can you suggest a means to test this?

Or is it possible for you to send me an email from uptime-monitor@wpmudev.com?

    Hi DigitalWires ,

Seems like the suspending won’t work as it returns a 200 as its status which would be picked as a normal page.

I’m afraid, there isn’t a way to manually send emails from the mentioned Email ID. You can try generating a 500 error in a test website and that should trigger a downtime.

For example, edit the theme or plugin file and add/remove any of the code to generate a 500 error. Please do note that if the site is cached it can take some time for Uptime to pick the site is down unless the cache is cleared.

If your intention is to test SMS works then you could test with any email as part of the test, so it would be much easier to check.

Please do check and see whether the above helps.

    Best Regards,
    Nithin
