using buddypress as a portal system

Hi,

Is it possible to use buddypress as a portal system? If so, what plugins would be needed and are there any case studies/sites that you can recommend that show this?

    BuddyPress is a social networking plugin based on WordPress. When you say portal, I need to know a bit detail of it. What type of portal you want? For social portal, you can use buddypress. If you want a news portal, then buddypress might not be needed at all but there are lots of good news plugins you can use. So, include a bit detail about portal so that we can make some specific suggestions.
