Just curious, will WordPress default “auto-updates enabled/disabled” will affecting The Hub plugin auto update?

Should I turn on auto-update under here?

    Hello iamJayChong ,

    Thanks for getting in touch.

The answer to your first question is, no. Enabling WordPress auto-updates will not affect Automate (Hub auto updates).

In fact, those automated updates are not entirely new. They’ve been there all the time since 3.7 release:

    https://wordpress.org/support/article/configuring-automatic-background-updates/

What has changed somewhat is the “logic behind them” (it’s just simpler) and there’s now a nice way to turn them on/off by clicking directly from the site and on “per plugin/theme” level (so more “granular” control) instead of “messing around” with code/filters .

Concerning your second question, whether you should turn on native auto-updates, I would say it depends on your needs.

When auto-updates are enabled, WordPress checks if updates are available– if I’m not mistaken – twice a day and if updates are available they are applied immediately.

In my opinion, the advantage of Automate is that you are not stuck with totally unattended and “uncontrolled” updates, but instead you can schedule when updates should be performed – for example do them on weekends when you know nobody’s doing any work on the site (while with core automated updates you never know when they happen).

Automate can also take screenshots of the site and do visual comparison to alert you if something goes wrong and do automatic backup before update so if anything goes wrong you could easily restore the site.

And you can manage everything in a single place which can be a huge time-saver in case of running multiple sites

So would it be conflicting? I don’t see why it would be. Automate is “run” by The Hub – offsite. It just contacts your site form time to time and “asks it” if there are updates available and if so it performs them or schedules them (depending on settings).

If it happens that core updater automatically updates a given plugin or theme meanwhile Automate will simply either not detect update (as plugin will already be in newest version) or not perform it and report that the plugin is in most recent version.

Please let us know if you have any questions or need further assistance.

    Kind regards,
    Mwale

      Dear Mwale Kalenga ,

Thank you so much for your explanation and I’m now CLEARER!

I have forgotten whether this support ticket is public or private.

I am also not sure how to check and because the information you compiled is really good, I hope it will be open to the public so that those who wanted to know can find it here.

If this threat is not public, you may switch to the public as no sensitive information disclose :grinning:
