Where to I limit the length of the title entered by the user?

Hello,

I want to avoid that the title is too long. Where in the php-files is the textbox for the title when the user enters it?

by the time someone has a look at the issue, I have some solution which was once suggested to be by someone, you may want to try that.

Just find this code:

<?php the_title(); ?>

and replace with this:

<?php if (strlen($post->post_title) > 35) {

echo substr(the_title($before = '', $after = '', FALSE), 0, 35) . '...'; } else {

the_title();

} ?>

Example:

Before:

<a>" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to <?php the_title_attribute(); ?>"><?php the_title(); ?></a>

After:

<a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark" title="Permanent Link to <?php the_title_attribute(); ?>">

<?php if (strlen($post->post_title) > 35) {

echo substr(the_title($before = '', $after = '', FALSE), 0, 35) . '...'; } else {

the_title();

} ?>

</a>

would it not be easier to use the maxlength=”35″ directly assigned to the textbox?

In which file is the textbox by the way?

in my function.php there is no such code and I had downloaded the newest version.

I searched for old threads and a few more forums, as there was no specific info for this plugin ( which is my bad, that I did not notice before) so, I think my above suggestion would only help in the post title length… :slight_frown:

I am not sure whether it would impact the titles of the questions posted by Q&A plugin.

The Q&A plugin offers templates that can be modified/customized in the sub folder of the Q&A plugin called default-templates.

This I believe is where we want to edit the plugin to limit the characters which would be done in the single-question.php file.

Around line 14 change <h1><?php the_title(); ?></h1>

to
```
<h1><?php if (strlen($post->post_title) > 35) {

echo substr(the_title($before = '', $after = '', FALSE), 0, 35) . '...'; } else {

the_title();

} ?></h1>
```
Please advise if this indeed works out.
