[WooCommerce] Nginx custom rules

I’m using Woocommerce to have digital downloads and I have created a FTP folder where I’m storing my files so I would need to protect that folder.

    Hey Jeff,

I am doing well, hoping all is well in your world too…

Thanks for updating the NGINX rules. I had a hard stop to fix with Defender + Elementor (which I am having handled), so I haven’t been able to fully check this.

Can you tell me, since you have made this rule and now I have a protected coded content, do I also need the plugin: Easy Downloads? Is this redundant in WooCoomerce? Can the book be delivered without the plugin?

    Thank you for your reply.

    Kindly,
    Fonda

    Hi Fonda

The rule you provided can only protect the directory “/my_uploads/” on the server level and will block direct access to those files in the mentioned folder, however, you will still need the plugin from where you got this rule to make the files accessible to the people you want to.

I also need the plugin: Easy Downloads?

Yes, you will need the plugin to sell the downloadable files.

Is this redundant in WooCoomerce? Can the book be delivered without the plugin?

If you want to physically deliver the products or sell other than downloadable products then you will need Woocommerce, or else you can remove it. I don’t see any reason for using both plugins for only allowing digital downloads.

For any features related to Easy Digital Downloads plugin please consider reaching out to their support team who would be able to better help you recognizing what would be possible and what not. You can reach out to them here https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/easy-digital-downloads/

Hope this helps you, please let us know if you need any further help.
